Do you have copies of both marriage records to see if both indicate his place of birth in the same way? Back at that time, churches tended to keep more detailed, and often more accurate, records than did the city. I would thus suggest that you try to obtain copies of the two church marriage records as well. What was Christian Bennewitz's religious denomination? What names are indicated on the two New York City marriage records as the clergymen who officiated at the ceremonies? I mentioned last time that there is no Ollendorf in Hanover. There is, however, an Ollendorf in Mecklenburg, and there's also an Ollendorf in the former Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach in Thuringia. What is the source of your information that the town Christian was born in was in Hanover to begin with? Is it a source that you feel is totally reliable? (That's a vital question you always have to ask yourself whenever you find any piece of information anywhere!) Robert
