Fellow Researchers, I have been learning more about my Hoormann and Kramer relatives. They came to St. Louis from Andervenne, Wehm, and Sögel. After many years of researching Niedersachsen and studying its political history, I am more and more interested in what daily life was like for rural folk--both landed and unlanded-- between 1750 and 1850. I have certainly read bits and pieces in places like www.emslanders.com. But does anyone know of movies, novels or substantial history books (in English) where one might go deeper into the day to day experience of Emslanders? Thanks. Joseph Kramer Researching Kramer, Hoomann, Martlage, Kessens, Cuer (Kuers), Rechtin (g), Bolscher, Berens from Andervenne, Wehm, Sögel.

Jane Swan has written three books entitled Saxon Chronicle. Excellent views of the area from very early times to arrival in US. My grandfather came from the area and many of the places had a familiar feeling. They are historical novels but with the emphasis on historical.
