When my ancestor "Johann Friedrich HEINS" left Hannover during the 1840/50s he settled in London England. He married an English girl in London in 1854 and the two witness's on the marriage certificate are "Ann Meyer and Nicholas Gerken". During that time it was fairly common that people from Germany did come to England and use it as a stepping stone to the USA . The other name that you mention "Fitton", are you sure about the spelling. As also related way back to my family is the name of Catherine "FICKEN". Hope this may be of some help, please let me know.
