    3. ---Werter Herr Kunze!

    3. I got covered up with "best wishes" after I announced my heart problem. It means sooooo much to hear from sooooo many nice folks. Blessings be upon thee and thy house! My "light duty" ends today, I can hug my wife much tighter (!!), tomorrow I get to drive again, hold our great-grandbaby, and pick up our Yorkie. Whoa! It doesn't get much better than that! Bottom line: I'm okay, and you guys are super! :-) Don

    3. "Hanover" has several interpretations. It was a kingdom, a province, an area containing hundreds of villages, towns, cities, and Hannover was / is a major city. There is also a Hanöver near Bremen. You'll need to develop more information in Australia, with the help of our Australian friends on this list, that will take you back to Germany, and you may also want to check the Australian links at http://members.cox.net/hessen/16states.htm toward the lower part of the page. :-) Don

    3. This is the first time I have posted the names I am searching. My great-grandmother was Anna Gesine Spalthoff born November 15, 1882. I wrote to Standesamt Delmenhorst (as I had found out that is possibly where she was born) and requested her birth record if they had it. I did receive back a copy of her birth record stating that her parents were this taken from the document "Hermann Spalthof (Spalthoff), resident in Delmenhorst, Langenstra*e, Protestant Lutheran confession and announced that from Anna Margarete Spalthof, bornBruns, his wife...." Anna Gesine Spalthoff left Germany and married Wilhelm Anderson, lived in Sweden, had her first two children there, immigrated to the US, had two more children, one being my grandfather. While living with her one son and daughter-in-law during her lifetime she never would speak of who she left behind in Germany or talk about her life while living there. In my request for her birth record I asked for any information regarding her parents or siblings. Stadt Delmenhorst respondes back " The marriage of Mr. Spalthoff and Mrs. Bruns is not recorded in the books of the Delmenhorst registry office. I can not find out, when and where Hermann Spalthoff and Anna Margarete Bruns got married. Unfortunately I can not tell you anything about her sisters and brothers." I bolded and underlined the "and" which jumps out at me that there were brothers and sisters. Any suggestions on how to find out more information. I have written to various "Spalthoff" people in Delmenhorst and heard back from one gentleman but I am not how to make the connection without getting names and birth records of the persons as his grandfather was Hermann Hinrich Spalthoff. His grandfather had 13 half-silbings with the last half-sibling being born in 1868 (could Anna Gesine's father been born in this first group of children???) and 4 brothers being born from 1872-1878. IF anyone has the names Spalthoff or Bruns in their family trees I would be interested in hearing from you, or any suggestions on how to proceed would be most welcome. Pattie Bartel

    3. I have been tracking my husband’s family and have come to a block in my path. I have been able to trace his departure from Antwerp, Belgium in 1880 to the Port of New York. His great-grandfather’s name was Frederick Strauss (here in the United States). He was born January 23, 1858 – it is our understanding he was born in Wittenberg, Germany. He married Mary Robren Schweikhard in 1887 in Illinois. He died and is buried in Lexington, Nebraska. On the ship’s log he declared his occupation as a farmer. We believe him to be Lutheran as he was married in the Lutheran Church in Browns, Illinois. I was told he brought over a younger brother at a later time, possibly either a Christian or a Gottleib . . . I am not sure exactly where they originated from in Germany, but am searching all locations (all I have is birth location to be Wittenberg – but spelling may be incorrect for city name). I am desperately seeking to find his roots and trace them back as far as I can for the sake of our entire family. If anyone has any insight and/or knowledge of a Frederick Strauss . . . or possibly the spelling was Friedrich . . . I would appreciate a lead so that I can continue my search. I will follow up on any leads that I may receive. Thank you to all in advance. Yanya
