    3. Hi Linda. Paul Meyer married Anna Scheffler. They had eight children. One died as a child. Charles was born Nov. 24, 1890. Married someone named Dorothy Paul Albert died as a young child. He was born Nov. 27, 1892. Herman, Feb. 9, 1895 married someone known as "Bertha" to the family. Ella Feb. 24, 1897 married Al Glynn Edna born July 26, 1899 married Robert Guittar Lydia July 5, 1901 married William Schif Erven June 10, 1903 married Adele Balke Bessie May 18 1907 never married From Anna's death certificate, I have a possible relative of John Meyer. I would guess he's a brother, but I don't know this as fact. No one is aware of any children of John Meyer. He may also have a brother Charles who died shortly after coming to this country, but don't know this as fact, either. Any of this connect with you? 3. Hi, Joyce. I don't have anything specific for you, but our families are from the same area. My 5G grandmother, Anna Catherine SCHUETTE (u-umlaut) was born at Sage, and my 4G grandparents, Anna Sophie VON WADEN and Johann STULKEN, were married in 1761 at Wiefelstede. And I have oodles of people from Grabstede and Gristede. Marilyn Joyceeileenkeil@aol.com wrote: > I hope that I am doing this right. > > My Menke family came from the northern part of Oldenburg. 2. Carol, What are other surnames (wife's, spouses of his children) associated with Paul Meyer in the St. Louis area? My Meyer ancestors are from the Hannover area (specifically Wenden), which is a bit northwest of Seesen. I also had ancestors in the St. Louis area. Linda

    2. I hope that I am doing this right. My Menke family came from the northern part of Oldenburg. I believe there are connections to Mansholt, Rastede and other locations in that area. Great-grandfather, Johann Menke, was married in Wiefelstede to Marie Ahlers. The Ahlers family had some connections to the area near Sage--am not sure of the time frame for that. She had two siblings, Heinrich Ahlers, and a half-sister, Anna. Anna was born in/near Sage according to her death certificate. Thank you. --Joyce Keil

    3. Hello to all and welcome to the new list administrator. I'm new to the list, too. My biggest brick wall is Paul MEYER. I haven't had any luck finding anything other than "Germany" for him. When I looked for and found the baptism records for 7 of the 8 children, I noticed that an Ernst Piepenschneider or someone in his family, was not only present for the baptism, but that baby got a middle name of that person. Checking the city directory, I noticed that Paul MEYER moved in with Ernst PIEPENSCHNEIDER when he came to this country. Ernst came to St. Louis, MO in Sept. of 1882. Paul MEYER the following spring. I was able to trace Ernst to Muenchehof, Brunswick, Germany. Unfortunately, the LDS have no useable to me, microfilm of the Duchy of Brunswick. I haven't the money right now to pursue hiring someone 'across the pond'. If anyone else has researched this town, near Seesen, and knows anything about the two listed above, I'd love to hear from you. ! Carol in St. Louis

    2. You see, that's my problem, I don't know. Only know of Louise who wound up in CT after traveling to Iowa for a brief time. Niemeyer seems to be a fairly common German name.

    1. family name NIETER
    2. Greetings everyone, I have recently joined the list and am enjoying and learning from your postings. I am hoping to research the German part of our family history... ancester: Gerhardt Heinrich NIETER, b. 1797, Hannover area, d. 1842 in New Bremen, Ohio (USA) married: Katharine Marie (Monie) GUSKY, b. 1804, Hannover area, d. 1852 in New Bremen, Ohio (the settlement was initially called Bremen, then changed to Ober Bremen and later became New Bremen) Ferdinand Heinrich Ludwig NIETER (first child?) was born in 1832, in Hannover and a later child - Johann Henrich Wilhelm NIETER was born in 1838 in Ohio. (these birth dates are not certain as far as I can tell) Many Germans from the Hannover area came to settle in Ohio and had made their way initially to Cincinnati. Some waited there for a period of time until most of the Native American inhabitants had moved further west (around 1832) before travelling north to settle the new communities that were being built in north west Ohio. Shortly after they settled and built homes, many of the young men went to work digging and building the canal which connected Lake Erie to the Ohio River (Toledo to Cincinnati) and some also stayed and settled in the Fort Wayne, Indiana area. Looking forward to hearing from someone with NIETER ancestry, Judith Nieter

    2. jan wgh
    3. Grüße Listmembers: I'd like to introduce myself...I'm a displaced Chicagoan, 37 years in Oregon, USA ,and searching for my families history. I have some fairly substantial evidence that the family of my great grandfather Johann Haase and great grandmother Juliania Ann Behnke came from (or at least resided in the area of) Thorn (now Torun) to Bromberg ( now Bydgoszcz) in West Prussia (now Poland). At least I'm fairly sure they lived there between 1860 and 1888, the range of birth years for my grandfather's youngest and oldest siblings. The known brothers and sisters in my grandfathers family are 1) Ida nee Haase , Born 1860, married Karl (Charlie) Retzke in the USA. 14 children. Died in Benton Harbor, Michigan. 2) Ann Martha nee Haase (known as "Martha") birthdate unknown, Husbands name unknown. Married and had 5 children. Entire family believed to have remained in Germany. 3) Maximillian Haase, Birthdate Unknown. We have a photo of Max at about 17-18 years of age with a Holtzminden/Bad Driberg photographers address. There is some speculation the family may have come from this area and moved ot Thorn/Bromberg. Max is believed to have remained in Germany 4) John (Johann?) Julius Haase, my grandfather. Born in May 1880, Emigrated to the USA in 1903. Married in Chicago IL in 1906. Died in 1963. Evangelical & Reformed-Lutheran. A member of the Masonic Knights Templar. Worked his entire life as a Taylor, Garment Cutter and Master Taylor. 5) Anna nee Haase. Born about 1885/1886. Married "Hintz." (no known first name) One known child Luzi (Lucy?) who was born about 1910/1911 and was confirmed in Spandau Germany in April 1925. KNOWN DATA: Have a copy of the passenger list showing Grandfather John Haase arriving in 1903 on the "Deutschland." Also have his marriage license to Clara Grochowske. Possess copies of the 1910, 1920 and 1930 Chicago census in which he and his family appear. Have checked LDS-FHC records for Thorn, Bromberg, Schulitz, Graudenz, and Gross-NeuDorf without turning up a clue. Have also checked the IGI for those towns plus Danzig and Elbing...no luck. Currently, some relatives are supposedly checking the Cook County records for Intent and Naturalization papers. Have been stuck at the above level of information for the last two years. Thank you all for your time and consideration Warren Haase janwgh@localnet.com
