Hi Jerry Sorry but no luck. Good Luck in the future - it might take you quite awhile. I am still looking for my grandfather and I've been doing that for about 20 years. Some day I'll find him. After all if it were easy we wouldn't be enjoying ourselves. My g-g-grandfather, Christoph Renken (10 Apr 1858) came to Chicago, IL in the early-to-mid-1870's. His marriage record states his birthplace as Herber or Heber (difficult to tell, it looks like Herber but I only find Heber on my old map). He died in 1888 and his death certificate states BP as Soltau. I believe he had an older brother who also came over but was dead by 1877. I have not yet gone far on my Renken research and am just beginning to turn back to this line - your posting was the first I've come across that had both Renken and Heber.

A chart showing all the diacritical marks can be found at : http://cgi.rootsweb.com/genbbs/HINTS/ForeignChar.htm This is from a copy that I printed out in July 2000. Hopefully this useful page is still there. The keystrokes given at this site, for the German diacritical marks, are different from those listed in the attached message. They have worked for me since I found them. Jerry Dittman Boonsboro, MD Researching: Dütmann, Hengelsberg, Grothaus, Bitter, Buller in the Osnabrück area. Huckenstein, Zelz in the Wipperfüerth area. On my Mac, I hold down the Option key and type "u". Then I type the letter I need--a, o, u, etc.--and it magically appears with the umlaut over it. (Also works for ï, though I don't think that's needed in German.) For ß, I just hold down the Option key and type "s". Hi: I am new to this list, and am looking for the province of Negro Beer, (possibly a church province). Does anyone know of such a province? My grandfather came from that area to the U.S. in 1884. His name was Meent Harms Abrams, and I am trying to find other members of that family. Dorothy
Hi Linda, Once again I advise you to look at the many Meyers on emslanders.com. Also, I have this connection in St. Louis. An Elizabeth Meyer, daughter of Bernard Meyer and Elizabeth Frohe, was m. to William Westendorf on Jan 21, 1873, Sts. Peter & Paul parish in St. Louis. He was b. Sep 24, 1844 so she would probably have been about that age as well. Jo Westendorf Banks res: Collins, Fitzpatrick, Lamping, Rabeling, Sand, Voelker, Voss, Westendorf in St. Louis
Hi ... I've posted before but haven't seen anything about the Schroeders in a long time so I will try again with my brick wall ... While I know a great deal about my gggrandfather after his arrival in the US and his first marriage I cannot find a birth or marriage certificate for him in Germany or absolutely identify if Schinne or Stolzenau was the place he was born. I have located a birth certificate for his first two children in Stolzenau. I am anxious to find out about his parents and siblings. My great-great-grandfather was August Friedrich Gottleib Schroeder, born 5/27/1819 in either Schinne or Stolzenau (I suspect Stolzenau). He was married twice, first in Germany to Christine Sophie Wilhelmine Kanning with whom he had 3 children, Sophie Henriette Caroline, Heinrich Christian Wilheim and August Ludwig. The first two died in Indiana in 1854 ata very young age after immigrating with August to the US between 1849 and 1851. The third lived until 1913. August married Sophia Wilhelmine Charlotte Selking in Bingen Indiana on 2/12/1854. August and Charlotte had 8 children between 1854 and 1869. Charlotte died in 1887 in Bingen and August died in 1894 also in Bingen. Cheryle Rappe
