    1. Immigrant Look Up
    2. I would appreciate if you would see if you have an entry for August Buhrmeister from the Otterndorf area. He was born in 1860. One reference I have says "he was brought to America at age 9" (either 1869 or 1870). However, his naturalization papers say that he arrived in America in 1883. Maybe there was two separate trips. It would be interesting to know if you find anything and who he traveled with at the age of 9. Thank you. Fred

    3. Hello Marge, Will you please check for two greatgrandfathers that I have not been able to find in immigration records anywhere? Peter August WEISS of Bavaria, born 1827 Georg SCHAMBACH of Bensheim, Hesse Darmstadt, born 1824. He may have been in Hanover, Germany before he left the country. Peter and Georg probably traveled between 1845 and 1855. (Not together, though) Also, if there are other SCHAMBACHs, is there a Franz Jakob SCHAMBACH, born 1835, also in Hesse Darmstadt. I don't know if he traveled with his brother Georg. Many thanks to you for your kindness to all of us who really need it! Best wishes, Helen Sanders _________________________________________________________________ On the road to retirement? 3. Hello all, A number of subscribers are responding to message board posts by hitting the reply button on their email, however, it doesn't work this way when responding to a Message Board post. When a list post says,"This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list." you must use the link provided in the message to respond. This will take you to the Message Board. The board gateway will forward message board posts to the mailing list but it only works one way. It goes from the board to the list but not from the list to the board, so if you reply on the list the person who posted the message may not receive your reply if he/she does not belong to the mailing list. Unlike the mailing list, folks are free to post to the message board without having to subscribe. Many board posters prefer not to subscribe to the mailing list, and only read the message boards. The open gateway benefits both the list subscribers and the board users so that the messages reach the optimal amount of interested readers. Sincerely, Joan Asche List Admin Mailing List Guidelines http://www.jasche.com/lists.html

    2. Marge K, Could I impose and ask you to check your German Immigrant books to see if you can find a Franz and Mariah (possibly Mary) Tiel or Tiela with children: Teresa, Minnie and Frances. They would have immigrated from Hamburg although Mariah was born in Muenden. Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

    3. There were Germans from the Hanover area in the Chicago area and just south of Schaumburg by 1835. The Fischer family from Estorf, Schmidt from Landesbergen, Franzen from further east, Buchholz etc in Chicago and DuPage county by the fall of 1835. Addison Township, DuPage County became over 70% German immigrants by 1860. The first Lutheran church in NE Illinois was formed in Addison Township made up of German immigrants. 3. It's still there. Probably a bit bigger than you remember, Linda. :-) There are also Schaumburg castles in Germany. 3. Would you please check the books for the surnames Dütmann/Düittman and Hengelsberg. As best as I can tell they emmigrated around 1854. I have been unable to locate the name in any of the immigrant books at the local library and the Ship Lists on line/ Thanks in advance.
