Hello, Don, I refer to your email below and ask you for the favour to send me a sample card about one - let us say - HOPFGARTEN or BECHSTEDT or ABICHT. Nice to hear from you! In advance already I thank you very much, indeed. Mit freundlichem Gruß. It is a collection of genealogies of persons and families of Central Europe, mostly German. : In 1991-1992 the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City, microfilmed the whole collection and the films are available through LDS/FHC centers except in Germany. This filming contains approximately 2,700,000 personal names on 1219 microfilm rolls. : A second, much smaller filming, made after the collection closed, covered the accessions subsequent to the first filming. This filming contains perhaps 200,000 personal names on 19 microfilm rolls, and is unindexed and unordered. : You can order an indexed book at http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnggs/die_ahnenstammkartei_des_deutsch.htm (this option is not free), : OR : you can take THIS E-Mail to your area Family History Center. The site which shows you, for example, the surname Schultz, the town where it is found, and the roll of film it is found on, is http://www.genealogienetz.de/lds/AST-ind.html . Scroll down to Item #5. You can look up the surname, town, and film number at home, or use the computer at your area FHC. It's similar to when a person says an ancestor came from New York. Did that ancestor come from New York City, or was that ancestor from another city, town, or village located somewhere in New York State? Robert

He was born July 24,1836 in Brunswick. He came to the United States in either 1850 or 1852.(He lists both these dates on tow different census) I am assumming he came through the port of Baltimore. He owned a grocery store in Baltimore city. But he may also have relatives in St Louis Missouri. In his daughter Ida's obituary it says for St Louis Missouri papers to please copy. I would like to find out who his parents were and if he came to Baltimore by himself or with his parents or brothers or sisters? There is a family story that five brothers came to America and then split up and went their separate ways. But I have no evidence that this even happened. So if anyone can help me,I'd appreciate it. August was married twice. First to my GG grandmother Mary E. Brandau, then after he death in 1883,he married a Margaretha Ruppell. Thanks, Kristy

Hello to Nancy and Dennis researching your Woeltje relatives :) I was struck by the mention of "New Bremen" NY in your notes... is interesting... because I have relatives from New Bremen, Ohio. I know that there were Nieters (my family name) in New York State also. And it is probable that they had also come from the Hannover area of Germany. Interesting coincidence that NY and OH both had towns named New Bremen. In some of the historical material in Ohio, I learned though that the first name of the community had been Bremen (around 1832), but when it was learned another town had already been established in Ohio with that name, the founders changed it to Ober Bremen... which later became New Bremen. Do either of you know the year when New Bremen was founded in NY state? Curious, Judy

I know that he arrived in May 1852 and went to Louisville. The passenger list has the place name Mäbden, which may be Meppen. I now believe that the name may really be Oldig or Oldiges. I see the online Findbuch shows only one emigration record that mentions Gödeker and that was Osnabrück, but you did say your ancestor was from Oldenburg, not Hannover.
Greetings to the Niedersachsen List: I am looking for someone doing research in the area of Holzminden and Bad Driberg during the period from about 1860 to 1890. One of my grandfathers brothers, Maximillian Haase, had his photo taken at a studio with an address in the two above named towns. Max was born sometime between 1861 and 1879, but the photo dates to about16 or 17 years later. Grandfathers name was Johann Julius Haase. His and Max's father was also named Johann Haase. I would really appreciate some help and guidance here. I have checked the IGI and the LDS records from most of the Lutheran Churches in that area with nothing turning up. Thank You, Sincerely Warren Haase janwgh@localnet.com

His father was Bernard Goedeker and Catherine Olding was his mother. They were both born in Germany. I feel that he must have been related to my great grandfather Bernard Goedeker from Loningen, Oldenburg, Germany who came to the US in 1888. George made millinery in St. Louis, MO. He died in 1917. HIs wife was Anna Hoerner, and they were Catholic. I am hoping that perhaps you might have Catherine Olding in your family tree. I appreciate any help you may be able to give. There were Goedeker's who settled in KY in Louisville also.
Family records show the birth of HEINRICH HERMANN DIEDRICH WEHNER in 1817 in T. EDINGHAUSEN, Verden, Kingdom of Hannover. Is T. EDINGHAUSEN perhaps Thedinghausen which is near Verden? Assuming that LDS has filmed the area, which church record would most likely record this birth? I have found two children of HEINRICH HERMANN DIEDRICH WEHNER christened at Evangelische Church Sankt Johannis und Garisongemeine Verden (film #31189557), but did not find any reference to HEINRICH HERMANN DIEDRICH himself. Besides documentation regarding his birth, I am interested in his parents: DIEDRICH WILHELM WEHNER and GESCHE CATHARINE RATJE and other siblings of HEINRICH. Beverly Wehner <bwehner1@aol.com>
