    3. Mark, The link you linked looks very informative. Thank you for providing it. http://app.staatsarchive.niedersachsen.de/findbuch/ Is there any way to use this and obtain a list of all emigrants from a particular town? I am specifically interested in Schwagstorf and Alfhausen. I can find these towns (kirchspiel) in the database ... but can't find my specific people ... possibly because of a spelling error. Thanks, Becky --- Mark Hayward <mdh1965@yahoo.com> wrote: > StAOs is likely the State Archives in Osnabrück > (Staatsarchiv Osnabrück). > > Here is a link to a page (in English) which > describes > how someone used the search feature for the > Staatsarchiv Osnabrück: > > http://www.mail-archive.com/hannover-l@genealogy.net/msg08663.html > > --- myquealer@gmail.com wrote: > > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to > > this mailing list. > > > > Surnames: Hinkebein > > Classification: Query > > > > Message Board URL: > > > > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZVC.2ACE/3975 > > > > Message Board Post: > > > > I am trying to track down my anccestors in > Germany. > > Meinrod Hinkebein was born in 1815 in Germany (the > > US census says Hanover). 3. StAOs is likely the State Archives in Osnabrück (Staatsarchiv Osnabrück). Here is a link to a page (in English) which describes how someone used the search feature for the Staatsarchiv Osnabrück: http://www.mail-archive.com/hannover-l@genealogy.net/msg08663.html --- myquealer@gmail.com wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to > this mailing list. > > Surnames: Hinkebein > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZVC.2ACE/3975 > > Message Board Post: > > I am trying to track down my anccestors in Germany. > Meinrod Hinkebein was born in 1815 in Germany (the > US census says Hanover). Meinrod Hinkebein was born in 1815 in Germany (the US census says Hanover). He immigrated to the U.S. around 1849. The only potential match I have found is this: Hinkebein, Meinert * 1818, Wohnort: Bookholt (Nordhorn), eingew. 1847 [StAOs] Rep 350 Neuhs., 668 From this page http://www.dialogos-studies.com/BIS-emigrants.html The source is listed as StAOs Rep 350 Nr 668. I have seen this source listed for other people on this page and other German genealogy pages (with different Rep and Nr numbers). Does anyone know what StAOs is? I am thinking it is like the church log book for St Augustino's or something along those lines. Is there any way to see what Rep 350 Nr 668 says? Is there any way to look through more of the source in hopes of finding a listing for my guy's birth? I'm going to a Hinkebein family reunion in a couple weeks and it would be great to be able to answer some of these questions.

The folks in question (first group) would be 1814-1837 in regards to Groß Berkel (did I use this correctly?) parish. Dehmke, Hameln, Hannover or Niedersachsen (first one, I would guess?) to my way of thinking I should be recording it as parish, town/village, Amt/county, then "State"? but I understand this could be incorrect because of shifting borders/names for time periods of those I'm researching....any help on how I should be correctly recording these folks and this area is greatly appreciated. thanks again for your time, and sorry for my misunderstanding. On May 20, 1758 in Bissendorf he married Maria Elisabeth RECKER, she was born Dec 1752 in Mundrup and died in Bissendorf in Jan 1781. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZVC.2ACE/3972.1 Message Board Post: Stacey, I'll explain to you how to type each of the German characters: First, you have to be sure that your Numbers Lock is on. Then, while holding down the "Alt" key -- (that's important -- while holding it down) -- type the numerical codes I will give you below, being sure that you type them using the number pad to the right of your keyboard: Ä = Alt + 0196 Ö = Alt + 0214 Ü = Alt + 0220 ä = Alt + 0228 ö = Alt + 0246 ü = Alt + 0252 ß = Alt + 0223 (this character is used in many, but not all, German words to represent "ss" and is only a lower case character) After typing the numerical code for whatever character you want to type, release the "Alt" key and the character will be there. As to your question as to how to properly list places on a chart, that would vary, depending upon just when the person in question lived. If you give me that information, I can tell you how to properly list the places. Robert
