Since posting my message, I have since found my Mohlmann ancestors. They are from a small village called Mimmelage, within a couple of miles of Quakenbruck. They attended the Lutheran church in the Quakenbruck district. There were numerous Mohlmann families in the area, spelled Mohlmann, Möhlmann, Mollman and yet a couple of other ways. I'm sure the Mohlmann you refer to is a relative somehow. If you have access to a local branch of the LDS Family History Center, check out the genealogical research collection for this exact area done by Herman Walter Pohlsander. He scoured the church book records for births, baptisms, marriages and deaths and put virtually all of the families together in "family cards". The collection is on film alphabetically which can be ordered through the LDS FHC. I only reviewed the "M" records. It may be worth your while to investigate the "H" films to see if any of your ancestors are there. It's written in! German, but I can help decipher most of Mr. Pohlsander's handwriting since I know the language. Thanks again! Robin

My family name is Hoferkamp. My immigrant ancestor, Henry Hoferkamp, was from Hanover, Germany. Like you, I realize that this is the "Kingdom of Hanover", and I have been trying to narrow down a specific town that they were from. I have not come up with anything exactly for him, but I did run across an immigration record online that listed a John Hoferkamp that was from Quackenbruck. (Correct spelling being Quakenbruck.) So, I am thinking that just maybe my Hoferkamp family came from there. After reading your message board here, what is interesting to me is that in the 1880 Census, in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky (Page 370A) my ancestor is listed as H. Hoferkamp, living with his wife Mary, son William, and mother listed as MOLLMAN. I always thought that was a strange name for someone, but maybe it was a surname? I just thought it might be a connection. I think there were some Hoferkamp's in Peoria t! oo, so there could be some kind of link here. This woman was 70 years old in 1880, so she would have been born in 1810. There is no listing for a "Mollman Hoferkamp" in the death records, but there is for a Mary Hoferkamp, who is buried in a single, unmarked grave in Cave Hill Cemetery. She died from old age on February 7, 1884, so maybe this is her. If you know of any connection, I would be interested in hearing about it.

Bob, You wrote: > The information I have on Joihanna Marguerita Eliza Aldag is: born 8/7/1854 in Lenaburger Heida (Lower Saxony), Germany. I believe there is a very good chance that the name of Eliza Aldag's birthplace is "Lüneburger Heide" or "Lueneburger Heide", a region located west and southwest of the town of Lüneburg in northeastern Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony). This narrows down the number of parishes from hundreds to maybe ten or so. You can find a list of Evangelical (Lutheran) parishes from the Landskirche Hannover at http://www.hist.de/KB-hannover.htm. I am not an expert on the Lüneburger Heide region, however I think that some of the churches listed under Church district Winsen/Luhe are in that region. Aldag is a fairly common name in northern Niedersachsen. I have Aldag ancestors from the parish of Apensen, located about 15 miles/24 km southwest of Hamburg. I wish you success in your research.
