    3. Dear Listers, My Father used to do a little Finger Play with the grandchildren and probably my siblings and myself, when we were small. I am doing a Family History and I want to include it in his biography, which will be a part of this history. Maybe, one of you might recognize it. My Grandfather was born in Kirchberg bei Seesen. His Mother was born in Helmstedt and his father in Isenstedt in Westfalen. Grandma Stegelmeier was born in Schleswig-Holstein. This Kinderspiele comes from one of these areas. It sounded like this: Die Kuckoo und die Tempelmuess seten beten loge ......und stuck die Muess im Loge. Dad would walk his fingers up the child's arm and then tickle them in the neck, as he said the remaining words. Thank you for any help. 1. Re: [NIEDERSACHSEN] Re: Help Finding Records in Ottersberg, Niedersachsen
    2. HI Alex, The church in Ottersberg is relatively new (50 years maybe?). If your ancestors were there in the 1800s they would have been part of the church at Otterstedt, a few miles away. I have been to both the churches, and looked at records in the Otterstedt church. It is extremely short staffed, and as I recall the office was only open 1 or 2 afternoons a week. I don't know their policy as to whether or not they respond to genealogy requests. The records of Otterstedt have been microfilmed through 1852, and I looked at them at my local LDS library after ordering them from Salt Lake. Even if you have no knowledge of German, they are pretty easy because you get used to the format and there are many places to find out the German word for baptism, funeral, etc. And it is quite a thrill when you find your ancestor's name! I have some pictures of Ottersberg/Otterstedt that I took when I was a there a few years ago. If you like I can email them to you. Good luck! Linda Pelak

Yes, Peter and Alvena (Gathmann) Wacker are my great grandparents and Harold is my grandfather. I was back in Wilton this past August for a mini-family reunion and in Treynor two years ago looking for Cord Gathmann's old farm. I have a lot of Wacker info and some Brammeier info to share. I have sorta hit a brick wall on the Brammeier's. You did such a lovely job with your family book. I'll bet family members were thrilled. I did notice that someone confused the wedding picture of Pete and Alvena with another couple....not hard to do with all of the wonderful pictures you included! I have wonderful memories of my Great Grandmother Alvena. She died in the early '70's so was around for my growing up years. My Great Grandfather Pete died when I was in kindergarten so I have only dim memories of him when he was very ill. Their daughter Clara's children are in my age group so we were very close during my Wilton years from 1946 to 1970. Harold and Etha Wacker's children all stayed in the Wilton area and had a passle of children. I am the oldest of 18 grandchildren! I've lived in Oregon for the past 35 years. I'm a retired school administrator. Send me your email address and we can chat off the message board. Glad to hear from you! Pam

We live in northern Illinois, but are leaving tomorrow morning, driving our motor home to Treynor, Iowa for a cousin's 90th birthday, and then on to Arizona where we will spend the winter. We will be out of email contact for the better part of one week, so don't feel hurt if I don't respond right away. You must be descended from Peter Wacker if you came from Wilton. Where do you live now? Do you have any more information on the Brammiers than is in our book? bye-EV

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZVC.2ACE/426.1440.1778.1813.1 Message Board Post: Hi Patricia, I could not find a link on the Luehring side. I have two Anna Marie Luehrings that I don't know a spouse for, but they would be a little older than I would expect for your GGG Grandmother. One was born Feb 26, 1813 and the other July 18, 1803. That would make them in their mid 30's and mid 40's when your GG Grandmother Dorothea Marie Buhr was born. But we are likely distantly related on the Buhr side. There were Buhr's living in Ellerndorf on halbhof #2 at the time your GG Grandmother was born. My GGG Grandfather Peter Heinrich Buhr took over the farm in 1839 when his father passed away and your GGG Grandfather could have been his brother staying on the family farm as a shepard or bee keeper until Verkoppelung came to Ellerndorf in 1856 and their was no more "shared" land for the shepards and bee keepers and many had to find work elswheres and that could explain why Henry Otto was born in Muden (may have been Müden - that's the parish the Luehrings in my family are from). Also, when Peter Heinrich Buhr was married, it was announced in Eimke and Hanstedt, and his wife Catherine Dorothy Buhr (maiden and married name) was from Eitzen in the Hanstedt parish so there is a connection to Hanstedt too. No definite connections, but hope it helps. I haven't used this email account much in the last few years, sorry to have been slow to answer.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZVC.2ACE/4017.1 Message Board Post: Dee, this is just a bit of background information: Steinhude was located in the former District (in German: Kreis) of Stadthagen in what was until 1945 the very small state (until 1918, Principality) of Schaumburg-Lippe, the capital of which was the city of Bückeburg, or if written without the "Umlaut" (two dots) over the "u", Bueckeburg. Schaumburg-Lippe was a tiny state, covering an area of only about 130 square miles and never having had a population of more than 50,000 people. Following World War II and the break-up of the huge state of Prussia (in German: Preussen; capital: Berlin), the Prussian province of Hanover, the state of Oldenburg, and the two very small states of Brunswick (in German: Braunschweig) and Schaumburg-Lippe combined to form today's German state of Lower Saxony (in German: Niedersachsen), with the city of Hanover (in German: Hannover) as its capital. Steinhude is no longer an independent town. In 1974, Steinhude was annexed by the city of Wunstorf. Wunstorf is a city of about 42,000 people, of whom about 5000 live in Steinhude. I should add here that Wunstorf was not in Schaumburg-Lippe. Wunstorf was located in what was until 1866 the neighboring Kingdom of, what was from 1866 to 1945 the neighboring Prussian province of Hanover. So although Steinhude is now part of Wunstorf, until the creation of the state of Lower Saxony following World War II, Steinhude and Wunstorf were in two different states.
