Hello everyone. It's been a while since I posted. I just found a new clue, and just two months before I promised the family history would be finished. So, I'm freaking out a bit. First, I didn't see a list for Hanover listed at Rootsweb, is this one correct? Johann Borges, born about 1804 or 1806 in Hanover was the person I was researching. I hadn't been able to find out where in Hanover he was born. I recently found an entry in the Kentucky state history that was about Joseph Hartke. It stated his mother was Elizabeth Borges. They lived within two blocks of my Borges'. I decided to take the chance of researching this family on Rootsweb.com and found an entry for the family, with Elizabeth Borges place of birth listed (Schwagstorf, Hanover). I was ecstatic! I wanted to order the microfilmed records from the town, but on the LDS website, the microfilm doesn't begin until 1808 :(. I have never done research in Hanover before (mostly Nordrhein-Westfalen and Rhei! n-Pfalz), so if anyone could give me any tips on obtaining church records or the best places to do research in Hanover, I would appreciate it. LeeAnn McNabb Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Danke fur deine Hilfe
LeeAnn, I ran into the same problem with the LDS Schwagstorf records; they don't cover the right time period. Also, be aware that there are two Schwagstorf villages. The following relates to the Schwagstorf that is now part of Furstenau. I think the other Schwagstorf is associated with Cappeln. (Sorry, going from memory on this.) Last year I contacted the Niedersachsen genealogy society (I think) and they provided the following contact. I have not yet written Mr. Schuckmann. He is a retired school teacher and reads and writes English. "our member, Mr. Schuckmann, has made a local lineage book (Ortssippenbuch) of Schwagstorf. Unfortunately he hasn't an email address. His postal address is:" Herbert Schuckmann Eschstraße 19 49635 Badbergen Germany I hope this helps. Becky --- miriam <mcnabbuc@netzero.net> wrote: > Hello everyone. Hello List, Does anyone have experience writing for marriage or Baptismal records to the Catholic Churches in these towns? I have some dates on the Baptisms but not the marriages. I am trying to locate the surnames WESTENDORFand SANDKER in Sögel and Werlte and SAND and BRINGMAN in Flechum. Any help would be appreciated. Jo Westendorf Banks
Mike, Map24 is an online atlas for most of the world. It does require Java, check it out at www.map24.com or for Germany it is http://www.de.map24.com/ . I've found it to be pretty reliable thus far. Hi Joel: Wolfenbuettel is where the Braunschweig troops of the day were headquartered and stationed. I have assumed that the further away from there a person then resided, the less likely that he would have been recruited to join their ranks. I have never heard of a "fingerspiel" until it came up on this list ... but with this post its starting to sound familiar from my childhood ... something that my grandparents, older relatives did with the younger children. (They were always saying funny things and tugging my ear, playing with my nose. Didn't always understand but I enjoyed it.) How do you do this? Do you sing a tune? Thanks, Becky --- RID1541@aol.com wrote: > Hello Listwer, > > Here is a fingerspiel I do with my Granddaughter, > now 2, not quite the same, > but similar. > I am from Niedersachsen, Goettingen, it came down in > my family. > > Geht ein Mann die Treppe rauf, > klinge-linge- ling, > klopf an, > guten Morgen Herr Nasemann. > > Goes a man upstairs, > dingeling, knock, knock, > good morning Mr. Noseman > > Walk up either arm with your fingersor take turns, > at klingeling, pull the ear lobe, > klopf an, knock on the forehead. > Guten Morgen Herr Nasemann, pinch the nose, > all this is done lightly of course- > Little kids love it. > Greetings from Ingrid, Kingston, NY > > > ==== NIEDERSACHSEN Mailing List ==== > Helpful websites! > http://go.to/hessen > http://members.cox.net/hessen/telephones.htm > > ============================== > Search Family and Local Histories for stories about > your family and the > areas they lived. Hello Listwer, Here is a fingerspiel I do with my Granddaughter, now 2, not quite the same, but similar. I am from Niedersachsen, Goettingen, it came down in my family. Geht ein Mann die Treppe rauf, klinge-linge- ling, klopf an, guten Morgen Herr Nasemann. Goes a man upstairs, dingeling, knock, knock, good morning Mr. Noseman Walk up either arm with your fingersor take turns, at klingeling, pull the ear lobe, klopf an, knock on the forehead. Guten Morgen Herr Nasemann, pinch the nose, all this is done lightly of course- Little kids love it. Greetings from Ingrid, Kingston, NY
