    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZVC.2ACE/4028.2 Message Board Post: Kristy, the village of MAHLUM was located in what was until 1945 the state (until 1918, Duchy) of BRUNSWICK (in German: BRAUNSCHWEIG), the capital of which was the city of Brunswick (Braunschweig). Mahlum is no longer an independent village. In 1974, Mahlum was one of a number of villages annexed by nearby BOCKENEM. So today, Mahlum is a section of the city of Bockenem. This is a little bit tricky, because Bockenem was not located in pre-1945 Brunswick like Mahlum was. Bockenem, a short distance west of Mahlum, was located in what was until 1945 the neighboring Prussian province of HANOVER (in German: Hannover). Bockenem is a city of about 11,000 people today, of whom about 600 live in Mahlum Robert

    1. picture-book Hollwege, Moorburg and Felde in pictures from the past and the present, Bildband "Hollwege, Moorburg und Felde in Bildern von gestern und heute"
    2. Dirk Oltmanns
    3. After 1999 as we published the history-book "Hollwege - Geschichte eines Eschdorfes im Ammerland" we produced from about 2002 to 2005 a new book, so that in November of 2005 the picture-book "Hollwege, Moorburg und Felde in Bildern von gestern und heute" (Hollwege, Moorburg and Felde in pictures from the past and the present) was published. The villages Hollwege, Moorburg, Felde and Hollwegerfeld (in Westerstede/Oldenburg/Niedersachsen) are presented in many ways in this picture-book. Photos of houses and families from 1880 till to today are shown in the way of walking round the villages (going from one house/family to the next in the neighbourhoud and so on). Pictures from school, the clubs/societies, handicrafts, farming are giving insights into the lives of the inhabitants. 224 pages are showing 740 photos, so many inhabitants can find theirselves, ancestors, relatives, friends and insights into the villages. Short texts are explaining the pictures (written in german). The book is made in the size of 24 x 32 cm in hardcover and can be ordered at: www.hollwege.com/bestell2.htm . There you can also find examples for texts and pictures from the book: www.hollwege.com/buch.htm . If you e-mail me it is also possible to get some examples of pages of the book as a PDF-document. best regards Dirk Oltmanns working group for the picture-book Hollwege-Moorburg-Felde www.hollwege.com (Guenter Arens, Hermann Bruns, Otto Hupens, Hannelore Luks, Dirk Oltmanns, Fredo Wilken) Nach der 1999 erschienen Chronik "Hollwege - Geschichte eines Eschdorfes im Ammerland", haben wir von 2002 bis 2005 ein Bildband vorbereitet, so daß wir jetzt Ende 2005 den Bildband "Hollwege, Moorburg und Felde in Bildern von gestern und heute" herausgegeben haben. You can bring them into your local LDS FHC. Merseburg is in today's Sachsen-Anhalt. During the lifetime of your Josef Ries, I believe Merseburg was within the borders of the Prussian province of Saxony, so he was actually Prussian, rather than German.
