There is another Freitag family in the area that I am distantly related to, but I don't know if they are connected to Gustav's wife. How are you descended from Gustav Pfeffer? You mentioned you have immigration records, just what kind are you referring to? Verna

My story is that one was my Gr-Gr Grandfather. He came with his 2 brothers, they were called the red, the white and the black (redhead, blonde and brunette). My GGGrandpa was suppose to send for his wife, Sophia, and 5 children when he settled in. No word came from him and Sophia finally came April 30, 1888 with her 5 children and a maid. She hired the Pinkertons to find her husband, but he was never found. She raised her children and her son Jacob was my GrGrandpa and his 2nd oldest daughter was my Grandma Rist. If there is more to this story or maybe you've heard some parts too, please contact me at kab409@yahoo.com. One supposedly went to Ohio, one to Brazil and my line settled in Connellsville, PA. Thanks Kathy

To my knowledge, the Mormons have not microfilmed those church records. You will have to contact St. Ansgar's Evangelical Lutheran Church (St.-Ansgari-Kirche) in Hatten directly. Here is the contact information: Ev.-luth. Kirchengemeinde Hatten Wildeshauser Str. 2 26209 Hatten GERMANY phone: 011-49-4482-329 e-mail: evltkg-hatten@t-online.de Like Kirchhatten, the city of Ganderkesee was also located in the former state of Oldenburg. The Mormons have microfilmed Ganderkesee's Evangelical Lutheran church records covering the years 1660 to 1864. As you may be aware, following World War II and the break-up of the vast state of Prussia by the Allies, the Prussian province of Hanover, the state of Oldenburg, and the two very small states of Brunswick (in German: Braunschweig) and Schaumburg-Lippe combined to form today's German state of Lower Saxony (in German: Niedersachsen), with the city of Hanover (in German: Hannover) as its capital. Catherine Margaretta JOHANNES born 19 March 1859 apparently in Kirchhatten. Came to Nebraska and was married in 1883 to Gerhardt Havekost. Her parents were Gerhard JOHANNES and Anna HAVEKOST. My question is does the LDS have church records filmed for this town and if so what town would they be listed under? I searched on the town of Kirchhatten but nothing matches. Are any of the records available online? I am also looking for information on Gerhardt Havekost born 19 Nov 1858 supposedly in Ganderkesee Germany - his parents were Arend Havekost and Anne Marie Menkens (Arend's first wife was Margaretha Gerken). Thx
I have been looking for some information on the von der leith's over the years. I know of a Henry von der Leith who lived in Jeffersonville, NY in the early 1940's with his wife and son Bill. I assume Henry was about 60 years old. He was formerly from either NJ or NYC. I believe his roots go back to Neuenkirchen (Land Hadeln) in the late 1800s.

He's in his mid-late 30's (just a guess), and does this for a living (not a hobby)...he's got some sort of degree in bibliotek/genealogy. I think he may also do work for local governments if they need to chase something down. He's not cheap, but gets an awful lot done in a short time (since he knows what he's doing and where to look). Until he knows/trusts you, he wants to be paid in advance, which is not unreasonable. We liked him especially because he picked up "incidental" stuff (ancestors' occupations, position in the community, historical bits involving ancestors, etc) besides just a bunch of birth/death dates....we even made a trip to Braunschweig (where my wife's ancestors come from) just to see some old buildings and museum pieces connected to her ancestors. Just E-Mail him. HTH. Chris

Hello all, This particular topic is off topic for this list. Please direct all replies privately to FTATA23@aol.com The discussion of DNA in general is not appropriate for this list as there is one that is exactly for this type of discussion. -->DNA would be appropriate as it concerns the research to a particular surname in the Niedersachsen area, but a DNA discussion in general needs to be directed to this list: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/DNA/GENEALOGY-DNA.html Sincerely, Joan Asche Admin On 6/22/06, FTATA23@aol.com <FTATA23@aol.com> wrote: > Greetings to all :) > > I have been looking at some of the DNA testing websites and wondered if any > of you list-mates have had DNA testing done for ancestry search reasons and if > you recommend a company in particular?
