    3. Hello list, I enjoyed the articles on St. Viktor's Church in  Damme and tried to find the same for St. Jackobus in Sögel. This is the parish where my ancestors-the children of Henrich WESTENDORF & Gertrud SANDKER-were baptized. They were born in the small village of Eisten just S. of Sögel (Soegel) in the years 1803-1819. I would enjoy any information on this Church or the city of Sögel. Thank you in advance. I was able to contact the author, Heinrich Porth, h.porth@t-online.de and was able to purchase a copy of his Hanstedt I area parish records through http://www.ebay.de and the best part for us non-EURO countries, was able to pay for it immediately through http://www.paypal.com using the current conversion rates IMMEDIATELY. I've done that, and am now waiting for their reply.

This is due to German privacy laws. Because you indicate that you are interested in post-1874 events, you'll be wasting your time going to the church. For events after 1874, you will have to go to the local Registry Office (in German: Standesamt) and consult civil records. Bear in mind, however, that due to strict German privacy laws, the "Standesamt" will let you look at records only of people from whom you DIRECTLY descend -- that is, grandparents or great-grandparents.
