    3. March 20, 2003 Can anyone further identify the "orphan boy, George Nichols" identified in this court record of 1733 in Plymouth County, MA (Common Please Court)? He could fit to be the George Nichols md in Boston in 1740, first child born in Boston 1741, other children born in Billerica 1742-1756; on Templeton tax list by 1763, where his will was probated in 1796. (This George was married under spelling of Nicols in church records and Nichols in civil records, and Nickles in Billerica, and Nichols in Templeton records. He signed his will with a mark.) "11. Richard Davenporte (Bridgwater Yeoman) v. Benjamin Lothrope (Plymouth Hatter). Case, for £150 damages for not delivering bonds. Pltf. said that deft. sold and assigned by indenture a servant boy, George Nichols, and that pltf. "In Consideration Thereof Gave Bond to the said Defts. at the Same time to pay Ninteen Pounds...and also one Bond for one Hundred Pounds Conditioned for Learning said Boy to Reade and write English and the arte of a Cordwainer. Now the Plant. in Fact Saith that within Twenty Days after said Bargaine was Finished as aforesaid he Returned said Boy to the Deft. and the said Indenture and assignment to the said Deft. also," but that deft. refused to deliver the bonds. Deft. pleaded not guilty. Jury verdict for pltf., £19 and costs, taxed at £5.4s. Appealed by deft., with Elisha Bisbe, Gent. (Pembroke) and Elkanah Leonard, Gent. (Middleborough) sureties.* 12. Benjamin Lothrope (Plymouth Hatter) v. Richard Davenporte (Bridgewater Yeoman) by atty. John Cushing Jr., Esq. Debt, on bond dated 20 December 1732 for £20. Deft. pleaded "that the Bond Sued on was Given upon a Certain agreement Betwixt them and upon the Plants. assigning and Indenture and Selling a Servant Boy to the Deft. which boy and Indenture the Deft. after- wards and before the Purchase of this writt Redelivered againe and the said (5: 90-93) agreement was Discharged and the Plant. agreed to Redeliver said Bond to the Deft. againe and So the Conditions of this Bond is Performed." Jury verdict for pltf., £20 and costs. Bond chancered. Judgment for £10.5s.6d. and [blank] costs.     3. Are you by any chance aware of a man named Arthur Whalen who was married to a Nickles possibly Josephine or Charolette- they had children Lawrence and Katherine. I was told he had written a Nickles family geneology. Joan

    3. Hello Joan and welcome to my new list. I can not place your Herbert W Nickles, but hopefully someone will be able to help you out as the list gets going. I just created the list to help organize many people that I know are interested in this family. My mother's maiden name was Nickles and she was born in Carlisle. Her father had done some research on the Nickles families when he was living. I'm sure you will hear more as more people join. Thanks for coming in.     3. I am searching for ancestors of Herbert W Nickles Born Decn 21, 1868 to (I think) William Nickles and (I know) Caroline Pratt. She died 1911 and I belive is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, MA. I have the deed to the cemetery lot dated 4/15/1901. I would appreciate any information. Joan
