    3. Posted with the kind permission of the Listowner. You are cordially invited to visit www.familynotices.org, a totally non-commercial & privately-owned site. Following the death of a close family member, I was surprised at the charges levied by the local newspaper for posting just a small obituary. The same applies to birth, engagement, marriages notices et al. It made me think through the whole 'public notices' thing and I created FamilyNotices.org which is an on-line repository for all such, with no fees or charges to view, search or post. Unlike a newspaper this has the advantage of being world-wide, free and doesn't get thrown away! Please feel free to help yourself and post anything which is relevant and appropriate - and it doesn't have to be current. Details of 'Auntie Millie born in 1896' is just as relevant as a modern-day wedding notice. If you like it, please tell your friends, for anyone is welcome to post good news or sad news. .........& if you don't, just tell me! Cheers for now, Nigel ______________________________________________ FamilyNotices.org - the free online repository for all notices of Births, Deaths, Marriages, Engagements, Anniversaries and Missing Persons Doing it for free - unlike the newspapers ! 2. Hi List, I am trying to find out more about Eliza Nicholls born approx 1864 in Aldringham who gave birth to a son William Nicholls who is my husbands grandfather. From info we have we think he was born out of wedlock as cant trace his Father. William was born in Hoxne 1885 . His mother Eliza Nicholls went on to marry a Arthur Smith b. in Leiston. But dont know when I would think about 1890 approx. . They had a number of children being Rose, Lilly, Violet, Daisy Arthur and Mary (must of run out of flower names) I found them on the 1901 census and it says william was a boarder at that time. We were quite lucky to find a diary of my husbands Father telling us all about his childhood with his parents William Nicholls and Rosetta Askew in India where he was serving in the army and it told us that william never got on with this Arthur Smith who married his mother Eliza. . We would love to find William's father but not holding much hope . But if anyone has any info on this or related to any of above would love to hear from you. Many thanks. margaret Nicholls.

    1. [NICHOLLS-UK] Nichols DNA Project
    2. Karen Nichols-Rexwall
    3. To all of you researchers of the brick wall Benjamin Nichols (1735-1799) who married Comfort Vanderbilt (1747-1843) I have some exciting news - DNA results! Many researchers of our line have been erroneously believing for years that Benjamin was the son of a Reuben Nichols from Germany who married Elizabeth Stump. This has now been disproved. The family is of Scottish origin. Possibly Ulster Scots (or Scots-Irish) in more recent times. Moreover, we have discovered that we are genetically related to another three Nichols families (of various spellings) of which we previously had no clue,( Results based on match with 24, 14, 10 R1b motif.), as follows: 1. John NICKLE/NICKELL b. 1700 in County Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland. Based on 37-marker comparison. Probability of sharing a common ancestor within the last 10 generations is 94.55%, within the last 20: 99.88% and within the last 24: 99.98% 2. Wyatt NICHOLS b. abt 1903 in TN Based on 37-marker comparison. Probability of sharing a common ancestor within the last 10 generations is 83.86%, within the last 20: 99.38% and within the last 24: 99.85% 3. William NICHOL b. 1783 in Pittsburgh or Harrisburg, PA Based on 25-marker comparison. Probability of sharing a common ancestor within the last 10 generations is 69.91%, within the last 20: 95.07% and within the last 24: 97.7% 4. Simon NICHOLLS b. 1642 in Scotland. Based on 37-marker comparison. Probability of sharing a common ancestor within the last 10 generations is 62.08%, within the last 20: 96.66% and within the last 24: 98.94% Please note that the comparison for the William Nichol line is based on 25 markers, while the others are based on 37. If the participant upgrades to 37 markers the statistics will likely increase and the timeline may just narrow. The challenge now is to find just where we all connect. If all of us researchers of these lines join forces we may just have a chance to solve this puzzle. Kind Regards, Karen

    3. I am searching for details of my father,s family. His father was James Albert NICHOLLS, son of Benjamin Thomas NICHOLLS and Eliza Jane TREGASKIS. They had several children born in Tiverton and they lived there for many years, but I don't seem to be able to find details. Benjamin was born on 4 June 1854 in Tiverton(father William on baptism certificate and Thomas on marriage certificate)and in the 1881 census he is listed as navy pensioner. Does anyone have any information about this family? Cheers Rosemary
