I am researching Arthur NICHOLLS and his family. Arthur is my Great Grandfather.The information that I have so far is that Arthur was born in 1847 in Norwich, Norfolk (source World Connect Project, Rootsweb) although detail that I have from the 1891 census puts his birth date as 1842 the same age as his wife Charlotte Marie Johnson. I have located Charlotte in the 1851 cenus (Norfolk) her father being Joshua Johnson and mother was Harriet Johnson, they lived at Grimstone, Freebridge Lynn, Norfolk. I cannot locate Arthur NICHOLLS in the 1851 cenus of Norfolk. Arthur and Charlotte had 9 children. Horace W NICHOLLS b17/2/1867 in Cambridge, Ernest F NICHOLLS b1869 in Cambridge, Gertrude E NICHOLLS b 1871 in Cambridge, Mabel E NICHOLLS b 1874 in Cambridge, Herbert Arthur NICHOLLS b 1876 in Cambridge, Gilbert E NICHOLLS b 1878 in Sandown Isle of Wight, Stanley Hugh NICHOLLS b 1879 in Sandown Isle of Wight Harold Edgar NICHOLLS b 30/5/1881 in Sandown Isle of Wight and Frank Percival NICHOLLS b 6/5/1883 in Sandown Isle of Wight. Harold Edgar is my Grandfather. I know 3 lines in this family ie Horace W NICHOLLS, Stanley Hugh NICHOLLS and of course Harold Edgar NICHOLLS. >From a biography written about Horace W NICHOLLS ("The Golden Summer - The Edwardian Photographs of Horace W Nicholls" by Gail Buckland) I know Arthur's family lived in Newnham Grove, Grantchester, Cambridge. Arthur and his brother Henry were Photographers along with Horace, Mabel, Herbert, Gilbert and Stanley. Arthur had a family Photography business in Marine Terrace, Sandown Isle of Wight. In the 1891 census of Isle of Wight the family home was in Cyprus Villa, Fitzroy St. Sandown. I would like information on Arthurs ancesters as well as information on Arthur's 6 other children.
