Benajah Nicholls left an extensive collection of Private Papers in Bertie Co NC. They are now in the NC Archives and are in four small file boxes. These file boxes protect about 20 file folders. 2 or 3 file folders per box have a 100 items or more while the remainder of the folders have smaller numbers of items. Benajah was very literate as were several of his contemporaries and kin, such as Baldy Ashburn. Benajah Nicholls, Esq was a Court and County official and maintained an extensive private law practice. He kept up correspondence with kin and friends over a 30 year period and was the administrator of several large Estates. The Nicholls family was extensive in Bertie Co NC in the latter part of the 18th Century and the first part of the 19th Century. I am interested in contacting descendents of the Bertie Co NC Nicholls; however, the Nicholls are not my line!! This is a small research project only! I will post any material that I write up to the Bertie Co or other relevant Gen-web sites. I do not wish to be rude but I am not interested in what WFT, LDS, etc. files have to say about the Nicholls from Bertie Co NC, and I am not able to do look-ups in this mass of material so please do not ask. What I would like to do now is to exchange information with serious Bertie Co NC and Nicholls researchers who already have some reliable family or research information (not WFT and LDS material though). Maybe we can help each other. I will research the NC Archives material for leads, etc as my part of the collaborative effort. Franklin
