Sorry folks but the Gremlins struck in my posting message as the Birth date for Joseph Enos Nichols should have given the year as 1876 and not 1976 otherwise all else is correct. Regards John.
This is really really weird as I have Alice Nichol(l)s, a g g aunt, daughter of Jonas Nicholls and Elizabeth Punter, marrying Frederick Fielder in 1895 in Bristol. This Alice had a brother George who was born about 1854 who would be the right age to be the father of Enos......I wonder???? There HAS to be a connection somehow! The family I know of was mostly based in Bristol but that means nothing as siblings could go off anywhere..... Iris -- http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~bristoladdresses/

Hello I am interested in the Nicholls history. I had trouble trying to trace my ancestry in U.K. and found our name was Nickless through 3 generations in Madeley Shropshire England. There were large families between 1700 & 1850 and some could well have finished up in America. My Grandfather came to N.Z in 1870. Rex Nicholls. I am looking for Nicholls' families in these counties of KY who had migrated to KY before 1838 hoping to find the parents/siblings of my GG-Grandmother: Hickman (formed in 1822 from Caldwell/Livingston counties) Calloway (formed in 1823 from Hickman County) Christian Trigg (formed 1820 from Caldwell/Christian counties) Caldwell At about the age of 16, in Calloway Co, KY, July 17, 1838, my GG-Grandmother Frances Nicholls married my GG-Grandfather Thomas Wood . It makes sense that her family was probably nearby since she was quite young. They were in the 1840 census for Calloway Co, KY. Can anyone help? LuAna Drake Craig

If you try www.1837online this gives all registered BMDs since 1837. From there you will find the link to order the certificates after you have found the info you need. It is a paying site but not dear and very valuable. Also of interest www.A2A.org.uk gives Archive material from many fascinating sources and I see a few Nicholls from Cornwall appear quite frequently at the quarter sessions. www.Ancestry.co.uk is loads cheaper than Ancestry.com and has mounds of material. All of these sites lead you to links where to purchase cetificates. Best of luck Iris Nicholls, from the Bristol mob

Hello Listers of the Nicholl list: My name is Harry Rose, I live in Cranbrook British Columbia, Canada where it is currently about 30 + Celsius and 7:15 p.m. I am attempting to fill in some more details on my wife's tree. Here is our situation. Mary Elizabeth Nicholls bn 1871 in England (Oh how simple !!!). parents were John Nicholls and Margaret ?? Through the Free BMD site I have discovered a Mary Elizabeth N bn in 1871 in Penzance Cornwall. I have also discovered on the Canadian 1901 census a John Nicholls bn 7 Jun 1843 birthplace England. Free BMD does not give any birth of a John in the year in Penzance. 1901 census for Canada gives wife's name as Margaret born 7 Sep 1844. Free BMD gives a Dec Quarter 1845 in Penzance, for a Margaret ROWE. 1901 census for Canada lists a Thomas bn 1873. Free BMD states Penzance. The next three children are listed as born in Ontario, Canada. The 1881 Census for England and Canada do not list the family, which might indicate their moving time year. The 1901 census for Canada lists only the son and last three daughters because Mary Elizabeth was married by this time. PROBLEM: The only marriage for a John Nicholls and a Margaret is listed in the Free BMD as Dec Quarter 1858, which if true would make the bride scarcely 13 years of age and the groom at the most 15. MOST UNLIKELY. Since Penzance is a region as well as a community, I do not know where to turn to find any mariage or Baptismal records. The family is listed as Congregationalists. Any help greatly appreciated. Rev. Harry S. Rose 533 Hurry Ave NW CRANBROOK BC V1C 4C2
