Dear Friends, My grandparents lived in Claremont and (I believe) took the responsibility for my great aunt when she became unable to care for herself. In a family bible I found that she died in "Narick Nursing Home". Does anyone know if such a nursing home was in Sullivan County in 1961? Your help is appreciated ever so much! I have been posting town histories on 10 list......but starting as of now, I will not be posting to any other list other than the : Ct-River-Valley-L@rootsweb.com and CtHartfo-L@rootsweb.com The reason for this decsion is because so many folks subscribe to the above list as well as your list (as I do)and end up getting 8-9 of the same messages and with that in mind, it is taking up valued space at the Rootsweb search sites because it's repetitive information being stored there. If you want to continue getting the town histories, subscribe to the above named lists. ( description of both list is on rootsweb home pages). Hi, I just received a notice back from Acworth stating they could not find a death record on my Wyman Richardson. All records seem to state that he passed away there. Since his son Calvin was born and married in Swanzey, I am wondering if he died in Swanzey and then was buried in Acworth at New Cemetery. Wyman's wife's name was Ruth Lane. Is there someone that could do a look-up and see if he actually died in Swanzey so I could write for his death certificate? Wyman died 14 Oct. 1839. Thank-you very much and any assistance is greatly appreciated. Sue macduff@citrus.infi.net Thank
Sue Martin (known to her friends as SueWe or, Sue White Eagle) is a native of Massachusetts and lives in the Berkshires. She descends from founding fathers of not only Groton, MA; but Groton, MA Parker men who were founders of the famous Fort No. 4, NH...frontier fighters in the French-Indian Wars. She descends as well from the Groton, MA Tarbell brothers - captives of the Indians from Groton, MA! She has many pages online already but her newest achievement is the stories of the Captives of the Indian Wars in New England. She has outdone herself! Excellent research, perfect citations on sources. Descendancy data included, and as usual, great page design. Visit her new website, officially opened to visitors today, 9/9/99 (nice number)! Just a note about early 19th century death records. When I was preparing my book on Unity, a neighboring town to Acworth, I examined (in the town office) all of the Unity Vital records prior to 1850 (and most of the records for the entire century.) There were VERY FEW death records prior to the 1860's, and not too many even then. Once in a while there would be a death of an adult noted in the early years, but generally the deaths that were recorded were the deaths of infants and children which were noted alongside their birth dates in the entire family record. I would be surprised if there were any "official" death record in 1839 for Wyman Richardson in Acworth. One place I would recommend looking to find some confirmation of his death place would be looking for a death notice in a paper such as the New Hampshire Patriot published in Concord (available on microfilm at the NH State Library and NH Historical Society in Concord). Another paper was the Argus/ Spectator published in Claremont and Newport - also available on microfilm. These notices almost always stated the place of death. While newspaper notices often did not contain much data in these years, occasionally there will be an extensive obituary. Kathy Beals
Susan, Have you tried to get his death records through Concord. About 1905 a law was passed that mandated that all towns were to transcribe and forward copies of vital records to Concord. There were a variety of levels of compliance. At Concord, if his records were forwarded, There would be a drawer with all the Richardsons in it for the state. So the town would not limit your finding it, that is if it was reported.
