The earliest change of name in Massachusetts was in 1781. The Massachusetts law was followed when Maine became a State in 1820. Thus, earlier name changes (1781-1819) were done by the Massachusetts General Court. In 1876 Maine authorized the Probate Courts to change names. The legislature has stopped changing names. p. 59 Trickey, Daniel of Bangor, changed to Daniel T. Johnson, 1838. Trickey, John, of Poland, changed to John Tracy, 1832. p. 60 Trickey, Lydia Maria, of Perry, changed surname to Lowell, 1836. Trickey, Nathan H., of South Berwick, and wife Sarah, changed surname to Miltonon, 1836. Trickey, Thomas, of Perry, wife and children, changed surname to Lowell, 1836. This does not say why the names were changed. Dana Edgecomb Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
