While we have been on the subject of Greenland, NH. I am looking for the parents of Margaret Simpson of Greenland, Rockingham County, NH. Margaret was born 1-2-1775 in Greenland, NH and married Alexander Wilson, b 1-11-1775 in Windham, NH. They must have lived in Greenland for a while after they were married because their first child, Pauline, was born 8-6-1808 in Greenland, NH. Their second child ,Lucinda, was born 5-22-1810 in Windham so they must have moved to Windhan between 1808 and 1810. Their third daughter, Sarah, was born 2-16-1812 in Windham. I learned from the History of Windham that Alexander owned and lived on his father's farm near Bissell's Camp and operated a saw mill there. Alexander's parents were George Wilson of Londonderry and Windham and Jannet Simpson whose father was Alexander Simpson the emigrant. Margaret Simpson's daughter Sarah Wilson married Joseph Cate and moved to Illinois. Margaret's daughter Lucinda married David SanforMetcalf of Lowell, MA.(My husband's g-g-grandfather). Alexander and Margaret may have moved to Lowell later in life. Alexander died in Lowell, MA 3-16-1861. Margaret died 3-28-1858 maybe in Lowell or Windham. About 60 years ago, my husband's great aunt wrote that Margaret was of the Portland and later Greenland Simpsons. The Simpson family may have been first in Portland before they moved to Greenland. Any information or clues to the ancestry of Margaret Simpson would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Susan Johanson -- Susan C.
