Ralph, There is a recently published book on the Towles that might be of some help: William Haslet Jones, "Philip Towle, Hampton, New Hampshire: His English Origins and Some American Descendants", Heritage Books, 1995. Have you seen this book? If you are unable to find a copy, I have one and can do a quick look-up. I would caution that this is not the most reliable source, and all statements taken from it should be verified. At least it provides a starting place. Is anyone on this list researching the TOWLES surname? Esther Towle (1799-1862) was the third wife of my gg-grandfather, Josiah Forsaith/Forsyth. I have never been able to find any of her ancestors or why the spelling of the Forsaith name for this branch of the family was changed to Forsyth. Their children removed to Dixon, Illinois, but I do not know if the parents ever went there. I believe that she is buried in Chester, NH.
