    3. Just recd a long-awaited book from Higginson--History of Candia, NH, by F.B. Eaton, pub 1852. This is a delightful little book, though my own family is mentioned only in passing...surely a major oversight! This is the first of 3 msgs (others to come: #2 Ministers & Physicians; #3 Dartmouth graduates/students) with info about early Candia settlers. Below is a list of the bio portraits included. I've tried to include an item or two to help you identify them. Most write-ups incl children's names and their marriages; many incl colorful anecdotes abt early life--its privations and trials. Desc of John Brown of London who arr MA ca 1635. 4. Caleb BROWN: s/o John Brown & Ruth Kelley from Hampton Falls; rem Candia abt 1762; m Mary Lyford fr Somersworth; 10 ch. 5. Nehemiah BROWN: s/o William Brown & Ann Heath; m Ann Longfellow; 3 sons William, Sewell & Nathan. 6. Nathaniel BURPEE: rem to Candia from Rowley, MA ca 1753; m Esther roth, 8 ch. One of 1st deacons in Candia. D 1815 @ 94. 7. Samuel BUSWELL: from Salisbury, MA ca 1763; m Betsey Underhill; 8 ch; a carpenter. At Cape Breton dur Fr-Indian war & AmRev. 8. John CARR: b Chester 1737; father from Ireland; m Mary Wilson; rem to Candia abt 1764. AmRev. D 1813, Mary in 1827; 6 ch. 9. Benjamin CASS: s/o Jonathan Cass; arr Candia 1759; AmRev. D 1820; wife remarried Deacon Samuel Nay in 1827 and d 1836 in Raymond. 10. Henry CLARK: Native of Newburyport; m#1 Keziah Bricket; m#2 Catharine Bean; m#3 Abigail Francis. NB: Keziah and Catharine both died. 12 ch. 11. Enoch COLBY: His grandfather, also Enoch, came on Mayflower, but not the first voyage. Grandfather d Chester, NH. Father also named Enoch m Sarah Sargent & d Chester. This Enoch Colby m Abigail Blaisdell; 9 ch. Son John d Valley Forge. 12. Thomas DEARBORN (Lt.): came from Chester ca 1764; m Mary Morrison; 4 ch David, John, Thomas, Samuel. Thomas, father, was in Col Peabody's regiment in RI during AmRev, killed 28 Aug 1778. 13. Samuel DUDLEY: To Candia from Raymond ca 1812. Desc of Gov Thomas Dudley; m#1 Judith Pillsbury; m#2 Sally Marston. 14. William DUNCAN: s/o John & Hannah Henry Duncan, b Londonderry 1771; to Candia 1798. A merchant. M#1 Mary McMurpy, 2 sons William & James (d young). M#2 Naomi McMurphy; m#3 Elisabeth Patterson. Moses DUSTEN (also sp Dustin & Duston): came to Candia 1768, s/o Nathaniel Dusten & Triphena Haseltine of Haverhill, MA; great grandson of Thomas Duston & Hannah Emerson of Haverhill. Paul d 1830 @ 90. 18. Moses EMERSON: s/o Samuel emerson of Chester, 1/2 bro to Col Nathaniel Emerson. Arr Candia 1761; m Lydia Fitts d/o Lt. Abraham Fitts; 9 ch. Desc of Michael Emerson who m Hannah Webster and settled Haverhill 1652. 19. Nathaniel EMERSON: obit dtd 24 May 1824 (incl); d 30 Apr 1824 @ 83; s/p Samuel Emerson. M 15 Nov 1764 to Sarah Tilton; 10 ch. Ext military career. "Member of Assembly which formed first Constitution of NH." Series of ltrs included. 20. Abraham FITTS: arr Candia ca 1763, b Salisbury; m Dorothy Hall of Chester, 10 ch. Blacksmith. Genealogy of Fitts family incl, "said to have been procured by the Hon. Daniel Webster." 21. Samuel FOSTER: b in Billerica; to Candia 1789, m Mary Colcord same year. 10 ch. Served in AmRev, at Battle of Monmouth. Mary still living in 1852. 22. Obededom HALL: b Chester 1745, to Candia ca 1776. d 1805, wife (not named) d 1799. 23. John HILLS: From Chester; to Candia 1765, m Mary Morse of Chester; 7 ch. At Battle of Bunker Hill and other well known engagements. Early deacon. 24. Jethro HILL: From Stratham; to Candia 1765; m Mehitable Jewett, also of Stratham. 10 ch. Both d tragically. 25. Benjamin HUBBARD: Interesting story of anc's route from England to New England. M Mary Pike in 1771; 3 ch. Am Rev. Details of military serv. Son Joshua. 26. John LANE: b 1771, from Poplin, NH (now Fremont); m Hannah Godfrey, 11 ch. Carpenter & cabinet maker, also town clerk. D 1822 @ 72, Hannah d 1844 @ 89. Grandson of Joshua Lane. Son John m Nabby Emerson, d/o Nathaniel Emerson; d 1851, well known and loved in community. 27. Moses MARTIN: To Candia 1777; b Amesbury; family from England. 28. David McCLURE (also sp MaClure & McCLUER): orig fr Scotland, to Boston ca 1720; m Martha Glenn 11 June 1730. To Chester in 1740, to Candia 1773. D in a snowstorm. Tombstone says he was first settler in Candia. 29. Andrew MOORE: b 1776, only son of John Moore d AmRev in 1778. Interesting anecdotes; d 69 y/o. 30.
