Ruth SANBORN, born in Brentwood on 16 Sept. 1756, the daughter of Zadok and Susanna (JUDKINS) SANBORN, Sr., married Asahel JOHNSON of Northwood, according to Victor C. Sanborn, (Sanborn genealogy, pg. 137, #126i). However, according to Joseph Dow (History of Hampton, pg. 773, #XII), she married a Nathaniel JOHNSON of Hampton. While Sanborn and Sanborn's Vital Records of Hampton (1992, vol. 1 at pg. 144) confirm that Nathaniel's first wife was named Ruth and that they had children in Hampton, it offers no clue as to Ruth's maiden name. Is there any subsequent research study that addresses this conflict of authority? Was Nathaniel's Ruth not a SANBORN? Thanks for any help. -- Dick Marston
