    3. Laird: Yes: there is very great point. I use Excel for my data base, I have a friend that uses Access but essentially the same fields (columns, etc) my columns set up across the Excel spread sheet are: b: Surname c: First name (also d) e; State f: County of g: Town or County or Township h ------- (open) i. Item (a description of what you have e.g. will , deed, census record, town list, probate record, etc. j k if em explore or source l explain n birthdate of person o birthplace of person p father q birthdate / father r mother/ s t mother/birthdate u spouse v birthdate w birthplace y other information I can use 18/inch type on a dot matrix wide printer and 11 X 14 paper and print this out .... it is also easy to work with. You make a copy of your list on another file for each different sort parameters you want. This makes a good supplement to work with FTM6 as entries for unknown people can be entered in your spreadsheet (or data base) A chose a spread sheet as one can get up to 25000 files with 300 sort fields per sheet , and it is easier to work with then a data base in which you must sort and print out a report to simply read it. If one wants.... they can dump their excel spreadsheet or spreadsheets into an access data base or find ways to link up several spread sheets. If anyone desires a sample I'll happily e/mail then one if they can read excel 4,5,6, or office 97.
