    3. Hi to all -- will someone please tell me a definitive source for the surname "Hilton" for the Rebecca who was the wife of Thomas Roberts? Here's my reasoning: We have seen her identified as "Rebecca Hilton", but have not found this in any definitive source. In fact authorities such as The Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire, by Noyes, Libby & Davis, do not speculate on her name, other than that Thomas Roberts' Will identifies his wife as "Rebecca". Articles on the Hiltons, who were early settlers with Roberts, do not list them as identified with a Rebecca. The connection between Thomas Roberts and the Hilton brothers was such that if he had married their sister, or any other member of a Hilton family, it would seem that it would have been mentioned by one of the historians or genealogists. While one must always be cautious about conclusions drawn from silence, in this case it would seem that the absence of identifying Rebecca as a Hilton would be strong inference that she was NOT a Hilton. Robert Charles Anderson, in The Great Migration Begins, includes accounts of both Edward Hilton and William Hilton, referring to them as brothers, and including their family information as known. He does not include any sister named Rebecca. Indeed, it seems to me that "Hilton" is the least probable surname for Rebecca. Can someone show me differently? Harman Clark P.O.
