I have a photocopied article "The Gentry of Yorkshire at the time of the Civil War", by JW CLAY, published in The Yorkshire Archealogical Journal, Volume 23. It gives brief biographies of many of those Yorkshiremen who became involved in the Civil War, 239 Royalists and 67 Parliamentarians. The following are samples, one from each list: Royalist: JENKINS, William, Esq, of Great Busby (son of Sir Henry Jenkins and Dorothy Tankard). A Royalist. Compounded and fined 487 pounds 7s 8d, 2nd April 1650 (vol 111, 13). Died s.p. Will 22nd May , proved London 30 July 1659. Parliamentarian: HEBER, John, of Hollinghall, near Ilkley, (son of Reginald Heber and Anne Swindlehurst). A Captain in the Parliamentary Army. Bapt. at Ilkley 2 Sep 1621; bur there 18 Apr 1649; M.I. Mar. Jane, daughter of William Willis.
