For example, I wasn't surprised to find that Thomasine is the feminine form of Thomas, but I was a little surprised to find that Thomasine is a nickname for Tamzen, which is also a feminine form of Thomas. So, now I understand why the wife of one of the Seavey Immigrants is referred to as Tamzen, Thomasine, Tamzin, and frequently Thomasine/Tamzen.
