    3. The number of cemeteries in Rockingham County is beyond calculation. There are thirty two in Epping alone. Most are in the woods where once there was a hayfield with a shaded corner. The Tilton cemetery on Blake Road (West Epping)includes a 30 inch high monument erected by parents of a son who went west in the 1840s, never to their knowledge to return. However, one day, after the Civil War, children at the Tilton house saw a livery wagon stop in the road. A man climbed out, walked up the field to the cemetery, stayed a while, returned to the wagon and drove away. They went up to see what they could and found the hay over the graves of the parents matted where someone had lain. One of the children told Mrs ___ Folsom Blair who, when in her 80's, told me in 1962.
