Hello- Enclosed is a brief description of my GGGrandfather Thomas Magoon, and my attempt to locate his parents. Thomas was born in New Hampshire (per his data on the 1850 Algoma Twp, Kent Co., MI census). He was born in 1798. At no time have I been able to ascertain any probabilities as to who his parents were. Here is one theory, though. In the 1880 Algoma Twp, Kent Co., MI census Thomas Magoon's son Henry stated that his father was born in Vermont. I initially dismissed this as an error, but now possibly think that there might be something there. There was a Moses Magoon in Rockingham Co, NH about 10 years before the timeframe of Thomas Magoon's birth, and he later moved to Corinth, VT and died there in 1814. There were other Magoons in that same area , but here is why I suspect Moses as Thomas Magoon's father. One of Moses Magoon's sons was named Benjamin (born abt 1893). Benjamin supposedly headed "west" in his youth. In the 1830 Lorain Co, OH Census Thomas "McGoon" and a Benjamin Magoon appear on the same page for the town of Amhurst. The census age for Benjamin was 30-40 years old, placing him in the proper age frame for Moses Magoon's son Benjamin. I have also received information that a Benjamin Magoon is buried in Camden Cemetery, Camden Twp, Lorain Co.,OH and the grave info again places his birth in the same time frame as Moses Magoon's son Benjamin. Right now, I am currently writing the Probate Court in Corinth, VT to possibly obtain a copy of Moses Magoon's will, and also looking for the address of the Probate Court in Lorain, Ohio to possibly obtain the will of Benjamin Magoon. Would anyone have any other ideas or angles that I should pursue? Any help or recommendations would be greatly apreciated. Thanks, Chris Andrews - Des Plaines, IL
