My question is this: which Lydia Berry was the wife of William Trefethern (b. 1755, Rye)? Some sources have Lydia as the daughter of Jermiah and Eleanor (Dow, Brackett) Berry while some have her as the daughter of Williamd and Love (Brackett) Berry. Arthur Locke's History and Genealogy of Captain John Locke, curiously, has William Trefethern married to the daughter of Jeremiah (p. 30) and of William (p. 64), both with the same marriage date. Does anyone have information that would clarify just which Lydia William Trefethern married? Thanks for any help. Bill -- William F. I believe that the Lydia BERRY in question was the daughter of Capt. Jeremiah BERRY and wife Eleanor DOW. Even though sources such as "History of the Town of Rye", by Langdon B. Parsons and "History and Genealogy of Capt. John Locke", by Arthur Locke (which you cited) claim that the Lydia who married William TREFETHEN was a daughter of William and Love (Brackett) BERRY, I think the following reference clarifies the matter: Rockingham Co, NH Probate Records, vol 39 (1809-1811), p155-157. FHL #16202. Will of Jeremiah BERRY, of Rye, yeoman, dated 19 July 1809 & proved at Exeter 23 Sep 1809 Mentions: (among others) "my daughter Lydia TREFETHEN, wife of William TREFETHEN". Her portion included a feather bed & bedding "which was the property of their mother's, decd". "Descendants of William & Jane BERRY of Strawberry Bank", by June Berry. 7 vols, 1992. FHL #2,056,051 [Vol 2: Descendants of James Berry & Eleanor Wallis,p27 & Vol 3: Desc of William BERRY & Judith LOCKE, p105] also supports that this Lydia was actually the daughter of Capt. Jeremiah & Eleanor (DOW) BERRY. ~ Carolyn Depp -----Original Message----- From: Bill Prokasy [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, June 16, 2006 2:43 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NHROCKIN] William Trefethern/Lydia Berry My question is this: which Lydia Berry was the wife of William Trefethern (b. 1755, Rye)? Thanks very much to Carolyn Depp who resolved the problem I had in identifying the parents of the Lydia Berry who married William Trefethern.
