I have the book "Old Kittery and Her Families" and have looked at the Jenkins listed in the book. I agree that is probably the family our Philadelphia b. 1784 is from, but she's not mentioned in the book and I'll have to do more research on that family.
I too have a JENKINS line and show the "Philadelphia JENKINS" you have been discussing in my database. I do not know her correct parentage either. I do show that she was born 8 Oct 1784 at Kittery, York, ME -- which ties into the current theories about her being from the Kittery JENKINS clan. [Remember that Kittery, ME is just across the channel from New Castle, NH...]. There is no indication of *where* Philadelphia was born (or who her father was) in the New Castle Town Records entry of her family with Barnabus YEATON, although her full birthdate is given there. If the family is a local one (ie: resident in New Castle), it is common for the father's name to be given in these family group entries--so this may be another indication that Philadelphia's family did not live directly in New Castle. In the US 1850 Census her birthplace is given as "New Hampshire", but in the US 1860 Census, it says "Maine". Of course there is no way of knowing who told the census taker "NH" or if he just 'assumed it' by default. ~ Carolyn Depp ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 04, 2006 7:38 PM Subject: [NHROCKIN] Re: WHITE family of New Castle, New Hampshire > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iQB.2ACE/721.1.1.1.1.1.1.1 > > Message Board Post: > > I'll look forward to your e-mail later this week.
