I have her parents as William and Jane Jones. I also have Joseph Amazeen (of New Castle, mariner, 14 Apr 1823,) m. Susanna Shannon 24 Nov 1799 in New CAstle. I do not have any info. on Joseph and Mary's children. Also, in the private Amazeen cemetery lot in New CAstle there's a Joseph Amazeen d. Oct 30, 1847, age 86 years (b. 1761) and Mary wife of Joseph Amazeen, d. M ar 18, 1824, aged 60 years (b. 1764). BUT Joseph son of Christopher Amazeen has a birth date of about 1775. I think Mary married Joseph son of Joseph & Dorcas Amazeen, but I don't have acutual proof of this. I think we'll need to do more research on this. Here's some more info: There was a William Jones in New cAstle 1748 (1748 tax list) and a William Jones & son in New CAstle 1720 ((1720 tax list). A William Jones m. Jane Kelly 11 Nov 1762 in Portsmouth at Queen's chapel. A William Jones m. Margaret Brewster 13 June 1765 in Portsmouth at Queen's Chapel. 1. The "Joseph AMAZEEN"s of New Castle
    2. Carolyn G Depp
    3. Some families get so "stuck" on a certain given name that it guarantees headaches for later researchers! The AMAZEEN families of New Castle always seemed to have a "Joseph" and often a "William". The following is a summary of the various "Joseph AMAZEEN" cousins I know about who were born before 1850: 1. Joseph AMAZEEN - born 1710-1713 at New Castle, son of Christopher AMAZEEN & Martha MOORE; died 1754 at New Castle. Married: Hannah BROWN on 27 Jan 1731/2 at Hampton Falls, NH 2. Joseph AMAZEEN - called "Jr.", born 1736, son of Joseph AMAZEEN & Hannah BROWN; buried 16 June 1824 at Portsmouth, NH. Married: "Dorcas" 3. Jospeh AMAZEEN - born 1761-1766, son of Joseph AMAZEEN, Jr. and wife "Dorcas"; died 6 Mar 1857 at New Castle. Married: (1) Mary JONES on 16 Dec 1787 and (2) Dorothea AMAZEEN, widow of Daniel TREFETHEN before 1830. 4. Joseph AMAZEEN - born 6 Mar 1763 at New Castle, son of John AMAZEEN and wife "Mehitable"; died 30 Oct 1847 at New Castle. Married: Mary T. AMAZEEN (dau of Christopher AMAZEEN & Mary TREDICK) on 18 Dec 1785 at New Castle. 5. Joseph AMAZEEN - born 1775 at New Castle, son of Christopher AMAZEEN & Mary TREDICK; died after 1812. Married: "Mrs. Susanna SHANNON" on 24 Nov 1799 at New Castle 6. Joseph Jones AMAZEEN - born 27 Dec 1811 at New Castle, son of William C. AMAZEEN & Jane Jones AMAZEEN; died before 1896. Married: "Elizabeth W." 7. Joseph AMAZEEN, born 1813-1814 (and christened as an adult 2 May 1841 at St. John's Church, Portsmouth, NH) ; died 20 Apr 1880 at Portsmouth. Married: Mary Elizabeth MORAN - 5 May 1833 at Portsmouth. [I don't know his parentage]. --this couple *might* be the same as #10, if his birth is approximate-- 8. Joseph R. AMAZEEN - born 16 Feb 1817 at New Castle, son of Christopher AMAZEEN & Mehitable RAND; died 21 July 1891 in Rockingham Co, NH. Married: Sophia C. BROWN abt 1836 9. Joseph AMAZEEN - married Mary FOSS, b. 5 Dec 1819, daughter of Benjamin Marden FOSS and Dorcas SHAPELY [History of the Town of Rye, by Langdon Parsons] ---this couple *might* be the same as #10-- 10. Joseph W. AMAZEEN - born 30 June 1817 at New Castle, son of William AMAZEEN & ELizabeth BERRY; died 25 Mar 1893 also at New Castle. Married: (1) "Mary E." before Oct 1850; married (2) "Elizabeth" abt 1854-1856. --this couple *might* be the same as either #7 or #9-- 11. Joseph AMAZEEN - born 24 Nov 1831 at New Castle, son of Benjamin AMAZEEN & Lydia PAINE; died 5 Mar 1915 at New Castle. Married: ? As you can see, couples #3, 4, 7, 9, & 10 all involve a "Joseph and Mary AMAZEEN"--so assigning the correct children (or tombstones) can be 'iffy'. Among those listed simply as "child of Joseph" or "child of Joseph and Mary (Molly)" are: 1. The "Mary AMAZEEN" b. 16 Sep 1796, who married Joseph W. BICKFORD in 1817. Her death cert says she is a "dau of Joseph and Mary (Molly) AMAZEEN"--which ones? 2. The "Dorothy AMAZEEN" b. 27 Oct 1800, who married John YEATON on 20 Oct 1823 in New Castle. New Castle town records of her family state simply that she is a "daughter of Joseph". 3. The "Abigail AMAZEEN", b. 1766 who married married Richard NEAL on 18 Dec 1784 at New Castle. 4. The "Sarah AMAZEEN", b. 21 Oct 1782 who married Capt. Robert WHITE, Jr. on 13 Nov 1800. Probate documents for a "Joseph AMAZEEN" of Portsmouth, trader, who died about June 1824 indicate he had a dau who was the wife of "Richard NEAL", a son Nathaniel, and another daughter, "Sarah WHITE". This Joseph's (second?) wife at the time of his death was "Lydia" (prob. THOMPSON) 5.
