Books are called secondary sources for a reason. They are NEVER as reliable as primary [aka, original] sources [birth-marriage-death certificates; deeds; depositions, probate records; wills, etc.]. Bet your last dollar that ALL genealogy books are subject to errors of commission and omission no matter who compiled them. For that matter, even primary sources are subject to human error. But I use secondary sources anyway. We all do. At least they provide clues, albeit sometimes erroneous clues, to guide future researchers.
