I had a similar very nice experience at the Greenland library, which is one of the smallest libraries I've seen. And they seemed interested in what I was looking for and knowledgeable on the subject, suggested some sources I might not have otherwise considered. Not in Rockingham Country, but I was checking out the Moultons, and visited some friends in Moultonborough,NH which is on the north shore of Winnipesauke, and they were also most helpful. And of course, in Seattle we are blessed with an incredible genealogy section in the main public library, and also the Fiske genealogical library...small but lots of great things. So there is help out there...you just have to look for it. I can tell you from first-person experience that the difference between libraries, as far as what they offer [or don't offer] is concerned, stems entirely from the interests and the focus or dedication of the employees who work there. Bill Teschek, Asst. Dir. at Hampton's Lane Memorial Library, should get the lion's share of the credit [thanks, too, to support and backing from his boss] for the content of the website sponsored by Lane. Volunteers can help make a difference, too, and residency in the Hampton area is NOT a requirement. For example, I handle Lane's genealogy database from southern California. Several years ago, shortly after we started adding Hampton's genealogy to their website, I offered to do the same thing for Rye's library. I never received a reply to my offer. Maybe someone else, trying the same thing today in Rye, or elsewhere, might have better luck. I, too, wish more libraries would offer the kind of information that Lane has made available. With a little help and encouragement from us, maybe some of them would. Worth a try? --- lee zuker <[email protected]> wrote: > We just got back from visiting the library.
