I have been a subscriber to various Rootsweb lists for almost a decade now (I was rather late to computer genealogy). In the first years many people helped me a great deal, but it has been quite a while now since I have asked a question about my own family on a list and longer since anyone has been able to help with what I did ask. So the response to my question last week about Benjamin Plumer has amazed me. The quality of the information has been superb, the sources people have had access to has really surprised me, and I have met some very fine people with whom I have very much enjoyed corresponding. I could take the treasures I have been given here and go away happy or I could be greedy and ask for more. And here I am, asking for more. Benjamin Plumer's wife was Ellen Marie Frye, daughter of William T. Frye and Maria (or Marie) Louisa Bell. William's line goes back to the immigrant John Frye or Frie, and I'm content with what I know about that side of Ellen's family. But Maria Loisa Bell has been a problem for me. The marriage record in Portsmouth says Maria was "of New Castle." I have been through such Newcastle records as are available on LDS film, and of course these are incomplete. Maria was born around 1822, and I guess probably in Newcastle. The census shows one family that might be hers, and that agrees with what appears to be a reconstruction of a family group in the records by a Newcastle clerk . There is a family group for Benjamin Bell, born Sep. 14, 1784 to George Bell and Hannah Amazeen which lists children: George Joseph Frederick Sarah Maria Benjamin Nothing more is given--no dates, spouses, etc., but this family, if it isn't a clerk's fantasy, would fit the little I know about Maria. I'd like to know a whole lot more than I do though, so any information or suggestions about the Bells would be most welcome.
