    1. BEDELL - living in NH in 1700's !
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I just checked the archives of the Boards and Lists, and I haven't posted a query about the surname, BEDELL, and the families living in NH in the 1700's in about 2 years. So, I'd like to ask if anyone has any new information about the BEDELL's and when they originally moved to New Hampshire ! I saw from the archives that there were at least 2? BEDELL men who fought in the Revolutionary War from NH. For my newly-found step-cousins, I am researching Abial BEDELL who was reportedly born in Bath, NH, or in Grafton County, in the 1830's. He seems to have been married twice, once to a Cynthia, and they had a daughter, Eva BEDELL. After he was living in Medford, MA, he married a Helen JONES, and they had 2 sons, Frank BEDELL and Charles BEDELL. I believe Abial BEDELL traces back to the BEDELL families in Plaistow, NH, or any town in Rockingham County, and his family might have moved up to Grafton County somewhere around 1800-1810. But, I haven't seen any BEDELL's being in NH in the 1600's. The earliest BEDELL's I've seen living in this area in the 1600's are the families arriving on Long Island, New York. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA)

I have since found his memoirs (at the UC Berkeley's Bancroft Library). He states he was born October 7, 1830 in Exeter, New Hampshire. He came from a family of machinists and worked as a machinist in the family business before going to sea. He sailed out of Boston for CA in November of 1849. Is anyone acquainted with this family? Are there still Moores in Exeter, NH that might be related? Augustus made a rather impressive mark on CA before moving to Southern Oregon. Margaret Wells

Most of the Trickeys of his day were descendants of Thomas (b. 1614) who immigrated from England to Bloody Point (Dover) before 1640. But I find no sign of a Samuel among the known descendant families of Thomas. Does anyone know any more about this Samuel? I could sure use some help. Regards, Al

I have been working on this family and am hoping that someone may have some additional information. I have found many Fitzgeralds in Portsmouth and Exeter. The earliest person I have is Daniel Fitzgerald. He was born in 1765, supposedly in Gilmanton. At some point he moved to Limerick, Maine. Then is listed as a settler in Gilmanton in 1794. Now he couldn't possibly exist in a vacuum-if he was born in Gilmanton, his parents must be someplace in New Hampshire? or Maine, I suppose... Daniel died in Littleton. Thank you, Amy

    1. William BOYD of Manchester
    2. Susan Tait Porcaro
    3. Hi, Still searching for roots of William Boyd, b. nov 1809 in E.Kingston NH. He married first Sarah "Sally" Osgood of Amesbury, MA, they had children: Mary b. 1834, Augusta Ann, b. 1836, Charles W. b. 1838, and Albert O. b. 1840. Sarah died 1844. William then married Sarah Clark Robertson of Maine, on 27 nov 1845 in Manchester. They had children: Sarah C. b. 1846, George A. b. 1848, Frank E. b. 1852, John H. b. 1854, James A. b. 1856 and Walter F. b. 1858. William was a butcher and had a shop in the Patten block. His sons ran a livery stable as Boyd Brothers in the latter half of the century. William died 7 july 1898 and his death cert. lists his parents as William Boyd and Maria C. Lamprey, both of NH. I cannot find this couple anywhere, assuming they were both born in late 1700's and there were Boyd and Lamprey families in NH then. William and his family are buried in Valley cemetery in Manchester. His son Charles W. served in the civil war out of Manchester. Thanks! Sue Windsor CT -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 2. Carolyn G Depp
    3. The particular George BELL you are seeking is my 4th great-grandfather (through his first marriage to Sarah AMAZEEN). Yes, his daughter Mary (b. 24 Dec 1789 at New Castle, NH; d. 16 Jul 1866 at Boston, MA) did marry Esaias PREBLE (b. 16 Dec 1776 in York, ME; d. 26 Feb 1856 at Boston, MA) I have no present knowledge of a daughter named "Nancy", but George did have a daughter "Elizabeth N. BELL", and the "N" could perhaps stand for "Nancy". Elizabeth was born 9 Aug 1788 at Newcastle and died 19 Aug 1844 at the same place. She married 31 July 1815 in New Castle to Rufus PREBLE (b. 4 Mar 1790 in York, ME). The couple had three children that I know about: Elizabeth, Rufus Jr., and Joseph R. The parents of George BELL were Meshach BELL, Jr. (died between Oct 1788 and June 1790 at New Castle) and "Mary" [maiden name unknown] who died in Nov 1797 at New Castle, NH. I will be happy to send you personally [not via the list] a GEDCOM file of the information I have on this family (with sources and notes). Most computer genealogy programs will allow you to import or "read" such a file easily. [If for some reason you cannot, let me know, and I can send you paper copies via snail-mail as well]. Are you primarily interested in the PREBLE or BELL families? Because George is my direct ancestor, I have some further information on the BELL and AMAZEEN ancestry as well. ~ Carolyn Dep [[email protected]] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, October 03, 2005 10:52 AM Subject: [NHROCKIN] GEORGE BELL, New Castle, Rockingham, New Hampshire > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iQB.2ACE/688 > > Message Board Post: > > I am researching GEORGE BELL, born 4 June 1762 in New Castle. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iQB.2ACE/688.1 Message Board Post: According to Hollick, Martin E., "A Chronological Framework for the Yeaton Family of Newcastle, N.H.", [New Hampshire Genealogical Record, January, April and July 2004] v. 21, p. 68, a George BELL, Jr. married a Margaret YEATON in Newcastle, NH, in Nov. 1785. The author was not certain as to whether Margaret was the daughter of Richard and Margaret [CRUCEY] YEATON, Sr., or whether she was instead Richard's widow [at pp. 67 and 68]. The article states that George BELL, Jr., can be found in the 1790 census for Newcastle with 2 males under 16 and 4 females. To me, this suggests that if Margaret was the widow of Richard, then she could not have been the mother of any of George's children since she would have been about 65 when she married George BELL, Jr. Further, even if she was another younger Margaret YEATON, it seems unlikely, although not impossible, that she could have mothered 5 children in as many years. If she didn't, then either George was previously married; or he an! d Margaret first had a child or children and then married; or one or more of the others in their 1790 household were not children. I checked the 1790 census, and Geo., Jr., is found only 5 households away from another Geo. BELL, probably his father. Counting all persons enumerated, that second household held 5 persons.
