I don't think marrying one's cousin back than mattered as it is now. You should see my Virginia lines. My charming John Smart (son of John Smart & Betsy Hilton) bought land in 1795, least half of it to his mother a few years later only to sell it from under her in 1807 and move to Maine. Gotta love them............ Have never been that far north but it sure sounds like a beautiful place. I have just been lost, I looked at everything I could find on Exeter and Newmarket around that time period and could not find a blasted thing except in the land records and the 1806 & 1807 tax records. Hi again The first John Smart arrived from England in 1635, and took up residency in NH( Hampton). That he was probably the ancestor of your John, is very probable.
