Wife was Jane unknown surname. Unfortunately I don't know much about him. His son was Robert GILMORE (b.1780 in Ireland or Scotland) who was a teacher in Rockbridge Co, VA in about 1830 or so. Let's compare notes. Sandy [email protected]
According to his marriage record, Abraham (Abram) BELL [b. 1818, New Castle, NH] who married Mary M. HALL [born 28 Dec 1822 at New Castle, dau of William HALL; died 18 Jan 1897 also at New Castle] was the son of a "Shadrach BELL". WHICH "Shadrach", however, is the problem--we BELL descendants are still working on that tangled mess. . . I have information showing Abraham and his family on the US 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 Censuses - if you do not have that data. In the US 1850 Census, the Abram BELL family is living with the family of Hepsibah YEATON, whose first husband was a "Meshack BELL". The US 1830 and 1840 Censuses seem to indicate that Meshack and Hepsibah either had their own son born in the 1817-1820 range or were raising another BELL relative's son of that age group. Could this be Abram BELL?? Abram is the only male BELL still living & in New Castle in the US 1850 Census who is in the 1816-1820 age group. However, buried in the South Cemetery, Portsmouth (with wife Sarah M. 1820-1879) is a "Meshack BELL 1816-1891" (this family also appears in the US 1850 Census for Portsmouth, NH). There is legal evidence from New Castle that an older "Meshack BELL" was a *guardian* for a younger "Meshack BELL"--so the ward of Meshack (husb of Hepsibah) may have been this same Meshack (later married to Sarah M.) In summary, there are at least 3 options as I see it for the identity of the young male (b. 1816-1820) living with Hepsibah YEATON's family in 1850: OPTION #1 - another biological son of Hepsibah's first marriage. [Might be named "Meshack Jr." or "Abraham" BELL, or ?] OPTION #2 - Perhaps this is the Abram BELL (b. 1819) who md Mary HALL, and even though he was a "son of Shadrach" (New Castle marr Records) he was raised by Meshack-and-Hepsibah OPTION #3 It might be that Hepsibah's first husband, Meshach BELL was the legal guardian of a BELL relative's son, also named Meshach, who lived with the family: New Castle Town Records, vol 5 (Inventories and Tax Records 1812-1822 and 1823-1825),. FHL #15242. p505 - Mentions: "Meshach BELL as Guardian of Meshach BELL, Jr" was taxed for 1/2 of a dwelling house, valued at $133. in 1821. p689 - Mentions: "Meshach BELL, Guardian" and shows tax rate - 1824 So, getting back to Abram BELL--was he actually a son of a "Shadrach" (which one??) or could he be the unidentified "son" of Meshack-and-Hepsibah?? I can also send you a detailed summary of the information currently known about the various "Shadrach BELLs" of the area. PS--The various "Meshack BELLs" are almost as convoluted. ~ Carolyn Depp -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Sunday, November 19, 2006 8:21 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [NHROCKIN] Abraham Bell This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. "Vital Records of Rye, NH", by Kathleen E. Hosier lists the following christening record for your Thomas TIBBETS: "TIBBETS: Thomas, son of Jacob, baptized 14 Apr 1776" Thomas apparently had the following siblings, also baptized at Rye, NH: Mary TIBBERTS, dau of Jacob, bapt 13 Sep 1767 Molly TIBBETS, dau of Jacob, bapt 17 Oct 1773 Samuel TIBBETS, son of Jacob, bapt 8 Dec 1771 Although there are some listings in the christening records for the surname YEATON, there is no entry for a "Frances" chr at Rye. The Birth Records from the Town of Rye (also in Ms. Hosier's book) do not include any YEATONs or TIBBETS references. There were a lot of YEATON families living in New Castle and Portsmouth, NH - both of which are also in Rockingham County and very close in distance to Rye, NH. I would suspect that she is from one of those families. [Unfortunately the YEATONS of New Castle (and vicinity) are a very, very tangled mess and there is a lot of mis-information available out there on the Internet about their 'family linkages'--as well as genuine research, so be cautious before 'assuming' anything and try to verify in local records if possible...]. As for the Maine vs New Hampshire locations, don't forget that York Co, ME and Rockingham Co. NH are only across an inlet from each other. My database does not show Frances Yeaton or Thomas Tibbetts; however, I show both surnames in New Hampshire in the 1700s. My direct Tibbetts line starts with Jeremiah Tibbetts, b. 1631 in England, emigrated in 1635 and resided in Dover Neck, Strafford County, New Hampshire. Hi all I'm looking to find the lineage of Molly Lamprey, b. 8 jan 1788 in Kensington NH. Her parents were John Lamprey and Sarah Eastman. I'd like to trace Molly and her marriage and lineage if possible. There's a chance she is the mother of my William Boyd - right age, area and name is pretty close - Molly - Maria. Brentwood was originally carved out of Exeter...so from that point of view, I guess you could say the original county seat was Exeter.
