I've "rescued" an old photograph identified only as "CLARKE" which was taken at the Jones Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph is of a young man who appears to be in his 20's at the time the photograph was taken, likely in the 1870's. The photograph was recovered along with others belonging to the Brown University Class of 1878 including both students and faculty. With that knowledge I was able to locate information regarding Willis Gaylord CLARKE who was from the Class of 1878 at Brown, so I'm guessing this is a photograph of Willis. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Willis and his family: Willis Gaylord CLARKE was b. 28 May 1856 in Detroit, MI to parents John Currier CLARKE (b. 3 Mar 1822 in Chester (now Auburn), NH) and Cassandra Perkins EDSON. He practiced law in Michigan and was likely unmarried. I am hoping to locate someone from this CLARKE Family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I'm sure I would have asked for the "intention", if it was available. Where might I find the original application? Naturalization: Final Declaration, filed 25 Oct 1898, Supreme Court, Rockingham County, Portsmouth, NH, #10. John Crowley of Portsmouth, NH declared his intention to become a citizen on 22 Oct 1896 at the Supreme Court of said County; He came from Ireland on 2 May 1892; Witnesses: William H. Does anyone have any leads or knowledge concerning NANCY STEWART born about 1759 and MARTHA STEWART (likely a sister). They lived in LONDONDERRY, NH, and in 1781 Nancy Stewart married William Vance. He left her in May 1785, and she got around to divorcing him in 1806. Affidavits say she was always of Londonderry. There was a connection of some sort to the Cox family. It is likely she was in the household of Elizabeth Cox in the 1790 Census, and earlier, in 1775, she received a cow from the will of William Cox Sr. Any help welcome. Have not so far found any hint of the family for either woman. Tom Moffatt St. David Ridge, NB

Good Afternoon, I don't know how many records are still available for the 1600's, but, if the information is available, I am looking for a little help. I think Richard MORGAN was born in New Hampshire, but he may have immigrated to New Hampshire from Wales. He was born about 1638. He was married to Rebecca Holdreidge 21 May 1660 in Exeter, New Hampshire. Rebecca was born 1643 in Salisbury, Massachusetts. Richard died 22 Feb 1711 or 1712. My Grandmother told me that our family in that region were all Puritans and she said that many of our Ancestors sat on Jury's for the Witch trials. I don't know if it's true or not, but, I am wondering about how to research that out, as well as immigration information for that period of time. Were the Witch trial exclusive to Massachusetts, or did they go on through out the Colonies? I live in California, so I can't go to the local library and don't know how much good it would do. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Barbara Ann Phillips bphil4@earthlink.net
