    3. Linda, In your searching for the DAVIS family, did you ever come across a Rhoda DAVIS born about 1790(a real puzzle here, because one of the PAGE genealogies has Rhoda listed as being born Nov 1790 at Haverhill,MA),who married in 1808 in Haverhill,MA,a Joseph PAGE of Haverhill,MA? They then moved to Londonderry,NH,where most of their children were born. She had a brother James DAVIS who married Rebecca INGERSOLL and James was mentioned as being at the 50th wedding anniversary of Joseph and Rhoda in 1858. 1. Hansard KNOLLYS - Dover, NH
    2. Ellen Bisson
    3. ...is the prob father of John "the Mariner" Knowles of Hampton. Another Knowles researcher and I are tracking Hansard, hoping to document his parentage. Rev. Knollys was in Dover, NH ca 1638; he purchased property from Henry Jocelyn and later sold it to the General Court of MA before returning to England sometime after 1641. The descrip of the property is: (from "Old Kittery and Her Families") "...Beginning at the cove just above Franks Fort (that is a small island in the Piscataqua River) extending NW 240 rods and inland 580 rods or just half way to York River..." This parcel was known as the "Knowles Purchase." Can you NH researchers point me to a way to find a map of this property? A source for the deed or anything else that would be helpful. In your debt, as usual! Cheers, Ellen Knowles Bisson mailto:thebissons@worldnet.att.net

    3. Hello Rockingham County list--I'm seeking information about: 1) Jonathan Batchelder, born in August 1778 in Northwood to John Batchelder (Samuel, Samuel, Nath'l, Nath'l, Stephen) and his wife Sarah Murray. 2) Jonathan Batchelder, born Feb 14, 1765 in Northwood to Davis Batchelder (Henry, Samuel, Nath'l, Nath'l, Stephen). I believe one of these men may be the same Jonathan Batchelder who was in Vershire VT (home to several Northwood families) in the late 1700s; whose wife's name was Elizabeth; and whose children, all born in Vershire, were Jonathan b 1796; Benjamin b 1797; Joseph b 1798; and Betsey b 1800. The 2nd Jonathan, Davis's son, is somewhat likelier b/c of his age, and b/c he was brother to Mary Batchelder Godfrey, who came to Vershire with her husband Moses Godfrey and sons in 1787. However, I would appreciate information on either man. Thanks for all help, Michele Stepto

There were two Matthew Boyntons, father and son, and it must have been a bit tricky, since one was a Royalist and the other a Parliamentarian (Roundhead). ROYALIST: BOYNTON, Matthew, 2d son of Sir Matthew Boynton, a Parliamentarian (see p 383). Succeeded his father as Governor of Scarborough Castle in 1647, but revolted and held in for the King a few months, surrenderin it 15 Dec 1648. He was slain at Wigan on the attempt of Charles 11, 26 Aug 1651. Mar. Isabel, dau of Robert Stapleton, Esq., of Wighill. PARLIAMENTARIAN: BOYNTON, Sir Matthew, Bart., of Barmston (son of Sir Francis Boynton and Dorothy Place). M.P. Hedon, 1620, Scarborough 1645-7. High Sheriff 1628 and 1643. A General in the Parliamentary Army; defeated Colonel Slingsby at Guisborough; took Sir John Hotham prisoner at Beverley. Governor of Scarborough Castle 1645 till his death. Bap. 26 Jan 1591; bur 12 Mar 1646-7, St Andrews, Holborn. Mar. 1st Frances, dau of Sir Henry Griffith, Bart.; 2ly, Katharine, widow of Robert Stapleton of Wighill, and dau of Thomas, Viscount Fairfax of Emley. 1. Jacob SMITH & Ruth Larned (1791)
    2. Harman Clark
    3. I am looking for parents, etc., of Jacob Smith -- here is what I know: History of Oxford, Mass., by George F. Daniels [Oxford 1892], page 696: "Jacob, of Deering, N.H., m. 1 Aug. 1791, Ruth, dau. of John Larned, owned from 1791 to 1793 the Lyman Wetherell farm, H. 68, removed from town. . . Children: Polly T., b. 26 Jan., 1792; Miriam, b. 21 July, 1794." [Ruth also is found in the Learned Genealogy, as No. 134, page 58]. Two of my granddaughters are descended from Miriam -- and it would be a shame not to fill this gap in their ancestry! All clues appreciated. Harman Clark P.O. 3. Hi, Rockingham Researchers: I thought it might be helpful to drop a reminder to not forget to check the Rockingham GenWeb page when you need a look-up in one or more of the records of a town, or in the books written about them or their families. Quite often it is the case that someone will have volunteered for the town or for the book in which you have an interest, BUT the volunteer is not a subscriber of this mail-list. In such a case you may get lucky and find someone on this list who will happily do the same thing, but you can't always rely on that. And, please, if you should happen to find an email address for one of those volunteers that is no longer valid, let me know about it. Thanks. -- Dick Marston, Rockingham County, NH, County GenWeb Pages: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/1706/; Rockingham County, NH, Mail List (NHROCKIN) Owner.

    3. Hi researchers, Would someone be good enough to look up in Vital Records of Hampton Falls Jonathan COLLINS, who acc. to info. at Danville NH, given at his marriage at Hampstead, was b. at Hampton Falls 22 Mar. 1739 to parents: Benjamin COLLINS & Mary JONES Collins. Any and all information available about Benjamin and Mary's parents, and vital info will be very gratefully received. I have received so much cheerful help from people looking up in NH that I have made a real breakthrough in what seemed an impermeable brick wall of research for more than 20 years. And here I am back at the sea, or nearly, and possibly will end up back in Mass. Thank you good people in advance. Natalie

    1. Exeter, Early Religion?
    2. Charles Brack
    3. My ancestor, Thomas WILSON, had church problems at Dorchester and was ex-communicated there for his beliefs. He and probably others with the same problem removed to Exeter, NH, where Thomas was the first "Ruler" of the town. He also had the first mill there. I would like to know if the religion at Exeter in the early 1600s would have been the same as practiced at Dorchester or was a completely different religion. thanks, Charles

For those interested in knowing a little about the emigration from NI during the late 17th and into the 18th century, take a look at the following URL: http://www.aughrim.demon.co.uk/bdel.html Glenn By the way Charles it has a quick note about Thomas Wilson a Presbyterian Minister. If this is your Thomas your question about why he was oustered from Dorchester may be held in the local history of the town of Dorchester. There may be something in the following URL, but I'm not sure, try it out: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/5551 Good luck
