-- [ From: Kathi Judkins Abendroth * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] -- Litchfield, NH was incorporated in 1729 and Francestown, NH incorporated in 1772. They are both in Hillsborough county. Litchfield is on the E side of the Merrimack River opposite the town of Merrimack, on the E is Londonderry & Nottingham West. Francestown has Deering on the N, on the E is New Boston, on the S is Lyndeborough & Greenfield and on the W is Greenfield. One of my books says Litchfield was incorporated in 1729 the other book says 1749. Hope this helps. Barbara, Litchfield, NH , Hillsborough Co, is small fertile township on the E. bank of Merrimack river. It is 8 miles E. from Amherst, and 30 S. by E. from Concord. This town has an excellent soil. There are two ferries, Thornton's, near the meeting house, on the post road from Amherst to Portsmouth; and Read's, 3 miles above. Litchfield was taken from Dunstable in 1734. It was originally known by the Indian name of Natticott, and by the English one of Brenton's Farm. The settlement commenced about 1720. Population in 1830, 505. This is from New England Gaetteer 1839 I will do the other town later today. Hope this helps some. Theresa

Friends, For those that might be connected to or researching these two families, there are these shipping news reports of the year 1828: The March 20th edition of the Baltimore Patriot & Mercantile Advertiser report the astonishingly bad luck of the Barque PHILLIPPA, spoke at the Port of Baltimore that 10 days out from New York (Mar.2), experienced severe cold, sails & rigging caked with ice...In the act of taking in the foretopmast-galiant sail, John LEWIS, a Dutchman, had a very bad fall from the rigging and died on the 13th. Allan: I don't have the answer to your question, but maybe you have the answer to mine (an OLD, OLD one) -- was his mother a Kingsley (Kinsley)? I have no surname for her, but I can't think of any reason for giving a son that name other than that it was her family name. I haven't found any contemporary with that name for a first name, either. It has been a long time, and my memory isn't all that great, but I seem to recall finding some eligible Mary Kingsleys in Savage. No record other than George's birth. He was son of Elbridge F. Judkins, b. Kingston and Nellie Isabelle Butler, b. Seabrook NH. I'll talk to the town clerk to see if she knows any more. If you need more on his ancestors I can probably help. George may have moved away early in life. Can anyone tell me the names of the churches that would have been in Exeter, Rockingham, NH in about 1783. I am looking for a record of birth for John Chapman, who was born in Exeter in 1783. I have checked the town records and have found nothing. I would like to look for church records, but I don't know any of the churches in Exeter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. April
Greetings. I am the listowner of HUNTOON-L@rootsweb.com, which is devoted to the descendants of Philip HUNTOON, who first appeared in the public record when he received a grant of land in Exeter in 1698. In 1703 he moved to Kingston, where he lived until his death in 1752, except for a two-year captivation when he had an all-expense-paid trip to Canada courtesy of some local Indians. His descendants were numerous in New Hampshire, although towards the end of the 18th century most of them were living around Unity in what was then Cheshire County. Philip signed his own name HUNTON, but public records frequently spelled it HUNTUNE or HUNTOON, and it is by the latter spelling that most of his descendants are known. As far as I can figure out, the name HUNTOON comes from no other place. There were other early HUNTON settlements, on in particular in Virginia, but the double OO appears to characterize only the New Hampshire branch. If you meet a Huntoon tomorrow, I believe it is almost certain that he or she will be a descendant of Philip. A genealogy of the Huntoon family was published in 1881, but like all genealogies of that time, it is almost completely lacking in source documentation. I have decided to compile an updated genealogy of the first four or five generations of Philip's descendants. While I know how to consult the standard sources (town records, etc.), living as I do in Southern California makes it unlikely I will stumble across things that I don't already know about. If any subscribers to NHROCKIN-L have any special knowledge about the Huntoon family in Rockingham Co they would be willing to share with me, I would be very grateful, and will fully acknowledge your help in the final publication. Thanks Allan Abrahamse Long Beach, CA allanabr@att.net HUNTOON-L@rootsweb listowner
