    2. Glenn Campbell
    3. Hi All, Happy holidays. I have been in possession of the Vital Records of Danville, NH from 1760 to 1886. I will try to post out a year of births, deaths and marriages each day and hopefully this information will help someone find their descendants. I will also list Baptisms from the years 1764 to 1788 when I get to those dates. Also, since no marriages were listed until 1764 I will list 1760 thru 1763 today. Also if someone has any information on Alexander Campbell or his wife Jeannit (?) who came to Danville abt. 1718 from Ulster, NI. Alexander supposidly died in Newton, NH abt 1759. His wife died in Kingston, NH after him. She was living with her son Annas at the time. She was admitted to the First Congressional Church of Kingston somewhere around 1770s. Alex owned land in Chester and Danville and was last known to be living in Newton around the time of his death. Neither my studies of the Gilmansl, nor the various Gilman genealogies e.g. Arthur Gilman or Charlotte Gilman Ames reveals a Hannah who married a John Folsom or an unmarried Hannah of such dates. Similarly the Folsom books at pg 92 confirm the Elsie Leavitt I would appreciate knowing how you obtained your information Fred Gain, P.O. Box 2307, Springfield, Ill. 62705 ph 217-546-3115, fax 217-546-8606. I think that the answer to your question is self evident in the first part of my letter to Karen. I read the printed word. The page 24 from the THURSTON GENEALOGIES may not agree with what you have, but since I do not have the other books as you seem to, I have to go by what I have. Scan your books, send the pages to me and maybe we can both learn something. John THURSTON #207 did marry Elsie LEAVITT. They had nine children, one of whom, Mary Carr THURSTON, married John Ingalls NOURSE and probably is the one who sent Brown Thurston the information on John THURSTON #61 as is mentioned in the above . Brown Thurston merely compiled his book from information supplied him from living decendents of the early settlers with the surname THURSTON. It is possible they made mistakes or that something was mis-filed while preparing the re- write of the 1st edition, but it is what I go by. One other thing, Mary Carr (THURSTON) NOURSE was still alive in 1892 and residing in Lawrence, Ma. as per page 55 of THURSTON GENEALOGIES. Anson J. Thurston, Jr.

    1. BLUNT-WILSON-LIGHT
    2. Barbara Ziek
    3. Hello- I have a New Hampshire puzzle. My New Hampshire ancestry is as follows: My ancestor, Jonathan BLUNT, b 1708 in Andover, MA, d 1762 in Chester, MA. He married Mary _________ and they had children: Joshua, Samuel, Sarah, Mary, Jonathan (b 1753, the next in my line-and my puzzle), John, Sarah and Mary. The surname of Jonathan's wife, Mary, has been a mystery. I have uncovered some clues. A recent computerized search through Ancestry.com of the Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire turned up information about Humphrey WILSON of Exeter which mentioned Mary WILSON, wife of Jonathan BLUNT. Further exploration has led to the following: Mary WILSON, b September 19, 1711, in Exeter, NH, married Jonathan BLUNT. Mary was the daughter of Thomas WILSON and Mary LIGHT, both of Exeter NH. Thomas WILSON was the son of Humphrey WILSON and Judith HERSEY. Mary LIGHT was the daughter of John LIGHT and Dorothy PIKE. Now my puzzle: the race of Jonathan Blunt, supposedly the son of Jonathan Blunt and Mary (probably Wilson). Jonathan, b. April 16, 1753, in Chester, NH, (son of Jonathan and Mary) left New Hampshire at some point, enlisted in the Continental Army out of Palmer (Hampton), MA when he was 24. He served for six and 1/3 years as a mattross, married Mehitable LYON of New York and died in New York. Jonathan Blunt is listed in Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of Revolution as "height 5'10", complexion, brown". He is listed in a DAR booklet about minority soldiers of the revolution as mulatto. A book about black patriots of Hampton MA lists Jonathan Blunt, husband of Mehitable Lyon, as black. Family stories did not pass down any indication of black ancestry so the DAR and Hampton MA book information was a surprise. Contact with the last two sources has not produced substantial information about black ancestry. However, I have found sources that indicate that the Light family of Exeter, NH and Jonathan's Uncle Isaac Blunt of Andover, MA, both held slaves..... Who am I? Do I have a second continent to explore? Is there anyone else out there exploring the same family? Barbara Ziek

    2. Jay Cross
    3. Hi, I am trying to construct a descendants chart for John & Robert CROSS (Presumedly father & son) who came to Ipswich in 1635. Mary [CROSS] SANDERSON b. 1617 is probably also a child of John. I have been through the NH Vital Records in Concord, but there are more CROSSes out there somewhere. I am especcially looking for Information about Robert CROSS & Elizabeth GRAVES who had children in the 1720's. He sold his house in Ipswich in 1728, just before his last son known to me was born (Moses). I am also trying to find more about Noah CROSS, who renewed his baptismal conenant in Rochester NH, 17 Sep 1749. Who were his parents? Who was his first wife? Who were his children? The CROSS family had a lot of activity in Exeter, New Market, Epping, Hampton, and more. They were involved in lumber and shipping. I would be grateful for any help I can get here. -Jay Cross

    2. Regarding Order of Founders and Patriots, I have another question. I was confused about the qualifications for membership. Does the line of descent have to always be through the male? From my gr-gr-gr-grandfather Hon. Josiah Bartlett, I go to his son Ezra, then to Ezra's son, Stephen Madison, Stephen's son, George Hendree, but then it comes through my mother. I thought I read somewhere that it was through the male line. Can someone explain to a dummie! Winifred in Houston

    2. Are there any Fernald researchers out there? I am looking for the parents of Deborah Fernald/Furnald of Nottingham who married Richard Hull in 1803. Deborah died before 1814 when Richard married #2 Abigail McCoy. There was a Thomas Fernald of Nottingham (married to Anna Keniston) who appears to be a likely candidate for Deborah's father. I was told that they had 14 children but I have been unable to identify Deborah as one of them. I would be most appreciative of any help with this. Many thanks. This information is obtained from "The History of Farmington, New Hampshire." Samuel is my 5G Grandfather. We would love to learn any information concerning his parents, ancestors, etc. Hopefully, one of you can provide the data we desire. Thanks in advance. Merry Christmas to all of you. 3. I know that ALL of us, myself included, have research interests outside Rockingham county. But every now and then I find it necessary to remind everyone that our outside interests have not expanded the scope of this mail list. All that is asked is, if a deceased cousin, aunt, uncle, friend, or ancestor did not live and die there, that at least SOME connection, albeit a census, a book, an article, a vital record or a family record shows that at least SOMETHING happened there. Messages about resources to assist us in this research are VERY welcome, too. Generic "how-to" questions about genealogy or history are o.k., but there are better lists for "newbies" to learn about genealogy research on the internet than this one. This message is not directed at any person in particular. It is not intended to anger or embarrass anyone. It is hoped that we all are subscribed to this list for the purpose of assisting others and ourselves to learn more about those who started in, ended in, or passed through this great coastal, colonial community. Our membership is now at 283 and creeping toward 300. Announcements like this one usually have a negative impact on growth, but better that, I think, than a flame war over the abuse of the list's topic policy. I've been there, done that, and I don't want to see it happen here. -- Dick Marston, Rockingham County, NH, Mail List (NHROCKIN) Owner.
