For example: Hampton,NH-- we have Gove ancestors who settled there around 1665.....today is part of Seabrook, Kingston,East Kingston, Hampton Falls,Sandown,DANVILLE. [did I miss any ?] Just for your information, where Gove lived in Hampton in 1665, today is Seabrook. Right now, Danville may be topic for a week or two and then another topic will surface, and so on........ I vote to keep putting records, regardless of what type or area ,as long as it pertains to genealogical interest, because sooner or later, you will see something that will interest you .....if it doesnt--the delete button is available. Merry Christmas Cynthia : My vote is in favor of continuing publication of these records. I haven't found anything worthwhile yet, but one of these days, who knows? > John Folsom > Orlando, FL > jorfo@prodigy.net > > -----Original Message----- > From: LairdTowle@aol.com <LairdTowle@aol.com> > To: NHROCKIN-L@rootsweb.com <NHROCKIN-L@rootsweb.com> > Date: Wednesday, December 23, 1998 3:32 PM > Subject: Danville Vital Records > > >Hi All: > > > >My understanding of the purpose of this mailing list is that it is > intended to > >be a place for subscribers to post genealogical problems so that > other > >subscribers can help them. 3. Ruth: I agree with you. I believe Mr. Marston, the listowner, already gave his okay on the posting of Danville VRs. On this list or any other list there should be one person, the listowner, that posts policy. I applaud Glenn's efforts in posting this information to the list. If I don't have an interest in a posted subject, I hit the "delete" key. 3. Please, folks. Posting of Danville records, or the records of any other Rockingham town, is a non-issue. It's o.k. That isn't to say it is useful for everyone. That's NOT the point. The point is that is on-topic. Opinions, however, about what is or is not useful, or on-topic or not on-topic are NOT what this list is for. That's my job. Write your opinions to me privately, please. Thanks. -- Dick Marston, MARSTON Mail List Owner.

Hi Kathi, I guess I would like to know why you feel this info should not be posted to the list? I don't think he should have to start a separate list for this and besides how would people find it? It isn't as though the Rockin list is a huge and very busy list that can't take the load. I am on other lists where somebody always complains about lists of people like this one. Lots of people seem to enjoy these lists and get something out of them. I feel the ones who don't want them it's because it's not their family info, if it was they would be delighted with the info. It's all well and good Kathi has books to look stuff up in but I have no idea whether there is anything about my families in them or not. With lists posted if there is something about one of my families it's there for me to see. Just my opinion, Ruth Ruth (HOUGHTON) BARTON Westminster,Vermont, USA mrgjb@sover.net

    3. -- [ From: Kathi Judkins Abendroth * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] -- Hello All, I too agree with Laird Towle. Danville, has at least two books in print which have their vital records which with a small bit of research, the publishing companies could be found in order to purchase this information. If the gentleman listing these records wants to keep doing this he might start up his own page about Danville, NH and list the info there. I don't want to sound like the grinch either but it sure would be nice if people would also learn to clean up the note that they are referring to when answering a query. I don't like re-reading a note I read the day before. It is possible to just include the pertainent parts of a previous note and exclude what's not needed. Just to prove I'm not a grinch, I list here books you may be looking for info in, which I'll be glad to look up for you ................... 3. Hi, I ahve been away for the holidays, so am just catching up on my e-mail. I will offer a big vote in favor of continuing to publish the Vital Records of Danville (or any other locality) on the list. I seems to me a wonderful way to share data, which might not be available to those of us researching in New Hampshire but living elsewhere. 3. Just a word of caution .... I believe Glen is copying these not from the actual vital records but from a book published by the Hawke Historical Society in 1979 and is therefore subject to error, although the information was copied from the original record. Corrections and additions were published in 1992. If anyone is looking for information after 1886, I'll be glad to help as I have extensive material on Danville/Hawke, including cemetery records. Also, be aware that not all VR's were recorded back in the 1800's. Joyce Collins Tebbetts Davies in Kingston. 3. Excuse me-but I thought lists were also a "learning tool"along with questions--.After all if one reponses to a question-isn't that a form of material? I for one have learned a great deal of an area not aquainted with(except to vacation)to me through such information. Please, if want to continue this-please e-mail me private. 3. Hi all I'm relatively new to genealogy (3 and 1/2 months) and LOVE to get anything that might relate. I've learned so much from lists like this one, not just about my lines, which actually has been little, but about the times and the connections of one line to another. I also belong to specific name lists, but don't find them nearly as helpful. There is something about the community that a list like this one has that really appeals to me. I definitely do my share of deleting, but I also do my share of saving. I have, not only specific files for my lines, but also a general Genealogy file, where I save anything that I think might be useful later that doesn't relate specifically to a particular branch. I have been amazed at what I've learned in just this short amount of time. I almost always check out any URL that someone suggests and have LEARNED a lot. Maybe as I grow more knowledgeable, I won't find a list like this so fascinating, but right now, almost anything is interesting to me and I am grateful that someone like Glenn is taking the time to inform and educate me. There, that is my two cents... 3. I have at least one ancestor that was ex-communicated in Dorchester, MA and removed to the town of Exeter, NH in the early 1600s. My ancestor was Thomas WILSON, who was "ruler" of the town in the early 1600s. Thomas and others that left Dorchester were probably what was referred to as "non-conformists" by the established church in Dorchester. My question: What affiliation was the Church in Exeter that served the non-conformists from the Dorchester Company? thanks, Charles

    3. Hello Laird: These postings have given me answers to questions that I had not thought of posting because I didn't know the place of origin for the vital records. It also gives me an idea of the larger picture of the relationships between the different names (as in making them contemporaries of each other). I am at times too focused on the smaller picture and forget the large ones. If someone makes a different mailing list for this type of post I wouldn't be adverse to the idea. I would just hate to lose access to something as valuable to this type of posting. I can assure everyone that if I thought that Glenn's contributions were inappropriate, I'd have stepped in long ago. And, yes, I would appreciate it in the future if any of you think that a topic is inappropriate ("off-topic"), that you take it up with me first. It was not my intent, by being a "hands-on" list owner, to put such issues to a vote. I'm not shy about telling someone when I think he or she has strayed from the mark. It may be a dictatorship, but I hope it will always be a benevolent one. Happy holidays, Rockin' Rooters! Let's get on with Rockingham genealogy and history. Peace be with you! -- Dick Marston, MARSTON Mail List Owner.
