    3. I have a Sarah THOMSON b. 21 Apr 1788, daughter of Matthew THOMSON and his wife Sarah LANE, m. 21 Apr 1807 David ROBINSON. David was born, lived and died in Stratham. I am trying to establish if this David is the son of Joseph R. ROBINSON b. 26 May 1718 and his wife Elizabeth FIFIELD b. 04 May 1716, both b. in Stratham. Most of the above information came from the book "LANE Genealogies" Volume 1, published Exeter, N.H. 1891, page 65. Can anyone help me with more data. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard A. 3. Can anyone confirm that the Frances Tucker born to Benoni Tucker & Ebenezar Nichols, Jan. 27, 1699-1700 in Amesbury, MA is the same Frances Tucker who married Samuel Winsley (b. 1700 in Salisbury, MA), May 1,1739 in Amesbury? Samuel and Frances Winsley later lived in Kingston NH. She was his second wife. I have checked the Essex Co CD and these are the only two references to ANY Frances Tucker. 1. Exeter Early Religion???
    2. Charles Brack
    3. I had 2 branches of my family in Exeter prior to 1650--namely Thomas WILSON and John WARREN. I am particularly interested in Thomas WILSON. He had the first mill in the town and was a local town officer. Thomas was a member of the Dorchester Company and had church problems in MA. He was ex-communicated from the church and removed to Exeter, may be with others that had the same religious views. My question: I am trying to determine if the Baptist religion was in existence in Exeter, prior to 1650? OR, what religion was practiced there in that time period? thanks, Charles

    3. Firstly I'd like to again thank Pat Gregg for the info she sent me on my Montgomery/Cargill connection. Secondly, thanks to whomever it was that gave the tip about highlighting quoted text. It sure makes all the lists I subscribe to easier to go through! Further to the petition to Gov Shute Pat posted, the following is a site that has immigratant ship passenger lists. At this time it appears none of the five ships that landed at Boston on Aug 4th 1718 and s. Nutfield are listed. Anyway, it might help some of you and they're adding all the time so a bookmark might be in order. FROM ROOTSWEB Quote: THE IMMIGRANT SHIP TRANSCRIBERS GUILD (ISTG) IS GROWING BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS. When the guild began its work on September 16, 1998, there were 50 volunteers within a week. Now nearly 500 volunteers are transcribing ship passenger lists that will be posted on the ISTG Web site. The guild accepts new volunteers on a quarterly basis. The next group will be accepted in April, 1999, so if you are interested in joining at that time, please read the FAQ under Guild Information. More than 300 passenger lists are now posted at the Web site and new passenger lists are posted weekly. <http://istg.rootsweb.com> Unquote: Warren T. 1. "Scotch Irish Research"
    2. Patricia Gregg
    3. I have spent less than 6 months delving into genealogy, and do not have the experience of many of you. I have been on a few mail lists only three days and have received some valuable information, and I believe given some out. However, I feel this to be true. Just from the experiences I have had, just finding a name or a location is never enough. Until I can get to know that person, "walked in their steps" I am not satisfied. If we can get into the Who first, then when, where, what, and finally why and how, and help each other, I believe the experience will be richer for us all. Perhaps the information is a little know fact about weather, dress, environment, industry, etc. It could be important to our collective understanding. The experiences of the Scotch-Irish are a much hidden portion of American History. In all my years, I don't remember being taught about them, and the contributions that they made, however, through research, I am amazed. This makes me want to follow their voyage to and to see American as they first saw it. I want to get into their heads, understand their thinking, see how they could survive. Posting hisitorical information for others to see could be a great way to share. In that vein, I will share an important document which could be the starting point for many of you. Posting historical information for others to see could be a great way to share. How fortunate for us that the founding fathers of New Hampshire understood the importance of History, even when it was being made and took steps to preserve the past for us to learn from. Today we are the History of tomorrow, it is this fact that drives us all. We see how very similar we are in our struggles and desires. Perhaps you have a distant relative that was part of the illustrious group. You must understand that not everyone found on this list made the voyage, and many that did not sign did. Copy of the Memorial to Governor Shute 26th day of March, Annoq. Dom 1718. "To His Excellency the Right Honourable Collonel Samuel Shutte, Governor of New England. We whose names are underwritten, Inhabitants of ye North of Ireland, Doe in our own names, and in the names of many others our Neighbours, Gentlemen, Ministers, Farmers, and Tradesmen Commisssionate and appoint our trusty and well beloved Friend, the Reverend Mr. William Boyd of Macasky, to His excellency the Right Hourable Collonel Samuel Shutte governour of New England, and to assure His Excellency of our sincere and hearty Inclination to Transport ourselves to that very excellent and renowned Plantation upon our obtaining from his Excellency Shutte encouragement. And further to act and Doe in our Names as his Prudence shall direct. Given under our hands this 26th day of March, Annoq. Dom 1718. Following were the signatures or marks of the persons. The names that follow were copied by the historian of Londonderry, E.L. Parker in 1890 and then again by Charles Knowles Bolton in 1910. "Below this address are the autograph signatures, arranged in eight columns of equal length. Where Mr. Parker's rendering of a name differs from my own I have given Parker's form below in italics. A question mark indicates that although we may agree, the form is still open to question. An asterisk marks names beginning with a small written b. Researching the MacGregors, Homes, Greggs, Cargills, Dunnings, Boyd, Clark, Woodside I was miffed today while researching in the History of Portland to find that Governor Shute knew full well of the impending Indian problems when he persuades the families to go to Casco in 1718 for the winter. Any details that are know of the ships "The Robert" or "The Macullum" would be appreciated. It seems the Scotch-Irish were more than frontier buffers but expendible. 1. NH census
    2. Hi everyone Want to let you know that I have the 1850 thru 1920 federal census for NH. Will do look-ups but please have a county. Also a little info makes a big difference between a find and a miss. Remember some of these counties are rather large and to read microfilm that is not always in the best of shape will take time. Will do themin the order that I receive them. Sandy

    3. This may or may not be OT. I live in the Nashville area and have heard most of my life that country music was brought over by the Scot-Irish. I have a lot of Scot-Irish ancestry in New England and Nutfield in particular. Question: Is there any indication that country music was in the early (1700s) Scot-Irish culture in NH? thanks, Charles

    3. Fellow Rooters, This came to me via a newsletter from an historic society recently: "Dear Ancestor Your tombstone stands among the rest; Neglected and alone. The name and the date are chiseled out On polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who cares It is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled One hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so. 3. It was the end of a VERY long day when I posted the first message and it appears I wrote "Options" instead of "Preferences". I'm not all that expert, as you can see. Sorry! Step-by-step instructions for colouring the repeated message text for Netscape Communicator 4.5: Go to: Edit Click: Preferences Go to: Mail + Newsgroups - Settings Plain quoted text beginning with ">" is displayed with: Style (choose the one you like, I use italic) Colour (select the contrast colour you like best) Size (choose the size - Regular, Bigger or Smaller. I chose smaller) Click: OK By the way, I found that this resulted in a different colour on the printout as well which just as great. Good luck! Magdalena Northern Portugal

All I did was click to Options and then clicked to "blue" for highlighting. Whatever I did really works for me as when I receive my digests, the reply appears in black on my screen and the original message in blue. For blue, choose any colour your computer offers. (I have Netscape Communicator 4.5). Maybe not an original discovery, but it certainly works for me! Magdalena Northern Portugal

    1. HOOK Family
    2. Hello - I'm looking for the parents/ancestors of Mary HOOK, who married Elder Moses BEAN of Candia on 26 Dec 1802, went to St. Joseph, Mich. with him, and after his death there, returned to New York where she subsequently died. Her two sons were in business in New York City, and I believe all are buried in Mount Vernon, NY. A third son, Stephen Morrill Bean, born in Candia, married Mary BRICKETT ON 25 SEP 1827 in Candia, relocated to Piermont, NH, and died there 25 Aug 1871. Any comments/info would be much appreciated! 3. Hi. I have just begun my research. You can tell that someone gave me the BALL line so that was a great beginning. Now I am trying to find more information about my other lines except for my maternal side which my mother is doing. So you would think that my task would be small...just my paternal grandmother's line. Not so, most of the information that I come across is older that the dates I am trying to research. So I am missing a generation or two in the flow prior to my ggrandparents. Any help on the lines in bold lettering would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance for your time. My grandmother was raised by relatives (believe it was Anna GEORGE BATTLES in Haverhill, MA and Newton, NH) when her parents died in the 1897 epidemic. My father believes that Alma was related to the PRESCOTTs of Rockingham County. He also remembers that Ezra (Elmer’s father) was a politician in NH. I have not found any GEORGEs that were NH politicians, but I did find an Ezra BARTLETT that was. Since there isn’t a last name on the picture and only a first name I am inclined to believe that Ezra was Alma’s relative and not Elmer’s. She died 23 Aug 1826 and is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry, NH. Moses was married to Judith Cheney daughter of Benjamin Cheney and Judith Holman. Judith was born 9 Aug 1764 in Newbury, MA. At the time of their marriage and the birth of their children, they were living in Rockingham County. Moses, Judith, and their children were part of the 1790 census for Londonderry Town, NH. At that time they had three sons under 16 years of age according to the 1790 census. This family is found in the 1800 census for Rutland, VT. By 1810 the family had immigrated to the Eastern Township of Quebec, Canada. I have been unable to find a marriage date for Moses and Judith nor a birth record for any of their children. Are records available in Rockingham County? If anyone is interested in or researching this family and their descendants, please contact me via my email address. I am a direct descendant of this family. Dennis Roth deroth@uswest.com
