Dear Barbara and List, I have been in charge of the Samborne/Sanborn English research for The Sanborn Family Association ever since 1983 when the Association was reorganized and brought back to life. The search is on-going, and we have not yet found the father of the three Samborne boys who came to Hampton to live with their grandfather, Rev. Stephen Bachiler, and their aunt and uncle, Christopher and Theodate (Bachiler) Hussey. The search has been a long and costly one, but we are committed to do all we can to find the name of the father, and thereby establish at last the English home of the Samborne family from which we descend. One of the THEORIES we had at one time was that Richard Samborne of Herriard, Hampshire, was the possible GRANDFATHER of the three boys. The idea was attractive because it was learned that he knew Rev. Stephen Bachiler while the latter was still in England. However, we later learned that it was not possible for this Richard Samborne to have been our progenitor because of other conflicting information about him and his family. I cautioned everyone that our findings were merely a theory waiting for proof that it either was or was not a possibility. I specifically told Elmer Corliss Sanborn that he should not advance this as an identification pending the outcome of further research. However, he did so anyway. His book which you mention was not sanctioned by The Sanborn Family Association, and we were quite mortified when it came out with so many errors and misstatements. I would advise anyone to pay absolutely no attention to that book; pretend it doesn't exist. The Samborne English research continues. For the latest results, consult the issues of "Sanborn Signatures," the semi-annual newsletter of The Sanborn Family Association. We welcome everyone's interest and support for this important continuing research. George F. Sanborn Jr., F.A.S.G. Dear Sally, The Universalist Church of Portsmouth burned in 1896 and in 1947. If the records were in the church in 1942, they were probably burned. If however you find them please let me know as that was the church of my husband's family. Elaine
Look up request: Would someone be kind enough to look up the surname Clyde on page 380 of Morrison's History of Windham, New Hampshire? I found this reference in an interesting book titled Genealogical Guide To The Early Settlers of America, page 93, by Henry Whittemore. This is apparently an excerpt and reprint from a rare periodical called The Spirit of '76 by the Genealogical Publishing Company,1967, Baltimore, MD. This book woud appear to be a very valuable resource for folks looking for early settlers in New Hampshire. If you have any of the following books, I would appreciate a look up in them too: History of Washington, New Hampshire - page 343 Hayward's History of Gilsum, N. H. - page 288 Hayward's History of Hancock, N. H. - page 449 Martin's History of Chester, PA - page 267 Clyde's Irish Settlement of PA - page 29 Clyde Family of PA (1880) Regards, Shannon Clyde Katy, Texas http://wwclyde.com/clydefamily

Does anyone know the whereabouts of vital records for The Universalist Church of Portsmouth, NH ca. 1773-1850, Baptisms, Marriages, Deaths? I've checked the Athaneaum, as well as NEHGS, Concord NH Historical Society, Concord State Archives, Portsmouth Library, LDS, Portsmouth Town Records, Harvard Divinity School, South Church (which absorbed the congregation in the mid-1900s), etc. According to a "Guide to church vital statistics records in New Hampshire" (WPA)ca. 1942, these records were at that time located at the Unversalist Church on Pleasant Street. Any clues as to where they might exist today would be appreciated. Thank you. Sally Neale

At a long shot Harry could be my missing Howard.....which would make Thelma his second wife..... Howard died not long after my dad's birth in 1930, however dad does remember meeting his grandfather, so I am guessing at least mid to late 30's for a death date MA or NH?????? Still looking... I recently discovered that I'm descended from Reuben Sanborn and Elizabeth Sleeper (their daughter Anna Sanborn married George Banfill, the son of John Banfill and Mary Lear)-- which means I'm probably related to just about anyone who ever had an ancestor in Hampton (and through the Banfills to just about everyone with early Portsmouth ancestry too)! I've been having a great time with the Hampton and Marston pages looking at all the myriad interconnections. (And I thought my Quaker ancestors were intermarried!) Always interested to hear from cousins on any of these lines-- however distant! -- Sarah Shaw Tatounova ************* http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/2064/ - My home page- focus on genealogy, history http://www.webwanderers.com - An ever-growing travel web site. **************

Parson's "History of the Town of Rye," etc. I do not have a cite to the page number(s), but I figured that I can add that later. She tells me that Elizabeth was Langdon's first wife. They married on 30 May 1837, and she died on 9 October 1848. I now have Langdon's roots back to John BROWN of Hampton. Yesterday was a VERY productive day for me. Two queries and BOTH answered! > Dick Marston wrote: > > > > I am looking for the parents of Langdon BROWN who was of Rye when he > > married Augusta MARSTON (1833-1872) in Hampton on 22 December 1854.
