    1. MAGOON- Rockingham Co,NH > Corinth, VT ??
    2. Christopher Andrews
    3. Hello- Enclosed is a brief description of my GGGrandfather Thomas Magoon, and my attempt to locate his parents. Thomas was born in New Hampshire (per his data on the 1850 Algoma Twp, Kent Co., MI census). He was born in 1798. At no time have I been able to ascertain any probabilities as to who his parents were. Here is one theory, though. In the 1880 Algoma Twp, Kent Co., MI census Thomas Magoon's son Henry stated that his father was born in Vermont. I initially dismissed this as an error, but now possibly think that there might be something there. There was a Moses Magoon in Rockingham Co, NH about 10 years before the timeframe of Thomas Magoon's birth, and he later moved to Corinth, VT and died there in 1814. There were other Magoons in that same area , but here is why I suspect Moses as Thomas Magoon's father. One of Moses Magoon's sons was named Benjamin (born abt 1893). Benjamin supposedly headed "west" in his youth. In the 1830 Lorain Co, OH Census Thomas "McGoon" and a Benjamin Magoon appear on the same page for the town of Amhurst. The census age for Benjamin was 30-40 years old, placing him in the proper age frame for Moses Magoon's son Benjamin. I have also received information that a Benjamin Magoon is buried in Camden Cemetery, Camden Twp, Lorain Co.,OH and the grave info again places his birth in the same time frame as Moses Magoon's son Benjamin. Right now, I am currently writing the Probate Court in Corinth, VT to possibly obtain a copy of Moses Magoon's will, and also looking for the address of the Probate Court in Lorain, Ohio to possibly obtain the will of Benjamin Magoon. Would anyone have any other ideas or angles that I should pursue? Any help or recommendations would be greatly apreciated. Thanks, Chris Andrews - Des Plaines, IL

    3. The number of cemeteries in Rockingham County is beyond calculation. There are thirty two in Epping alone. Most are in the woods where once there was a hayfield with a shaded corner. The Tilton cemetery on Blake Road (West Epping)includes a 30 inch high monument erected by parents of a son who went west in the 1840s, never to their knowledge to return. However, one day, after the Civil War, children at the Tilton house saw a livery wagon stop in the road. A man climbed out, walked up the field to the cemetery, stayed a while, returned to the wagon and drove away. They went up to see what they could and found the hay over the graves of the parents matted where someone had lain. One of the children told Mrs ___ Folsom Blair who, when in her 80's, told me in 1962. 3. Hi Mike, You might be interested in reading my article on a purported Native American in Seabrook in The New Hampshire Genealogical Record [July 1990], pp. 97-107. It should give you some ideas and background information. I think that same Eaton family gets mentioned as parents of a spouse in a later installment of the same article. 2. Hi all, I'm new to this forum and have a ton of questions but I'll start off slow. I'm trying to find out about a Nancy Eaton of Seabrook who married John Proudfit Boyd. I have a picture of her & she looks native american. Also family members say they heard family tradition that she was a full-blooded native american. However, I've been unable to find any info to support this. I've found records that list her parents as William Eaton and Nancy Brown of Seabrook (very un-native names) although I've yet to find her birth record anywhere. That makes me believe that perhaps she was adopted by the Eatons. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance. Mike

    1. Re: query: Londonderry founders - what ships? (Clyd, Clyde, Rankin)
    2. Gail Brown
    3. Shannon, As far as I know, there are no complete ship lists available for the Scots-Irish who settled Londonderry, but there are other sources for finding info on them. Parker's _History of Londonderry_, Bolton's _Scotch-Irish in Ulster and America_, Annis' _VRs of Londonderry_, are three of the best books and probably available in any good genealogy library. Bolton's book has been reprinted and would be available from any one of several online booksellers. Also, the LDS has filmed all the Londonderry town records, so a visit to a local Family History Center might prove very helpful to you. BTW, I checked the index of Bolton's book for your names - I don't see CLYDE, but Hugh RANKIN is listed as one of the early settlers on p. 264. 3. I have managed to trace my family roots to Daniel Clyd (Clyde) of New Hampshire. Family history indicates that he emigrated from Londonderry, Ireland to New Hampshire in 1732 where he helped found Londonderry. I have not been able to identify a ship or port of entry. I have seen references on this list that indicate several ships arrived together with the founders of Londonderry. Can anyone help me? Also looking for Esther Rankin and Hugh Rankin who also came to America same time frame, possibly on the same ship. regards, Shannon Clyde

    1. SANBORN, Jonathan (1718-?): His wife??
    2. Dick Marston
    3. Jonathan SANBORN (1718 - ?) and his wife had 8 children. There is a conflict in the "authorities," however, as to the identity of Jonathan's wife. J. Dow, at pg. 949, calls her Priscilla (_____), then, at pg. 954, names her as Mary BATCHELDER, daughter of Benjamin. V. C. Sanborn, at pg. 107, identifies her as Priscilla BRYANT. Neither of them is reported as his wife, however, in Hampton's records (Sanborn and Sanborn, vols. 1 and 2), nor is his marriage. He did, however, have children, one of whom was a daughter named Priscilla, who (according to Hampton's records) was baptized in Hampton on 29 July 1744 and who married there on 22 November 1764. -- Dick Marston, NHROCKIN mail list, 320 subscribers.
