    3. Dear Rob Roy, I agree and believe that it was a late bapt. Her father John, Jr. was b. Dec 1668 and died abt 1717 in Greenland. As I have yet to find her mothers name or date of marriage I can only till I find out differently stick with my theory. 3. Dear George and list, I was elated for a moment, then facts stepped in. Being descended from Ithamar Berry, this has been a genealogical thorn in my side for years. 3. Could someone tell me what information is contained on birth and wedding certificates from the 1800's? Specifically , I am looking for a birth record for Charles Page from Strafford about 1820 and his wedding certificate to Lucy Tilton in Epping from 1843 , and Lucy's birth from about 1815 . Would they have parents names , addresses , etc. or just list the names involved ? Mahalo-Kevin

    3. Dear George H. and all, The New Hampshire Genealogical Record is the quarterly journal of the New Hampshire Society of Genealogists, and all members receive it. In addition, many libraries (especially those with a good New England genealogy collection) either subscribe to it, or should. Most of the back issues of the journal are still available from the New Hampshire Society of Genealogists, P.O. Box 2316, Concord NH 03302-2316. Single issues cost $5.00 each (postae included), but double issues are $10.00 each (postage included). The issue that has this article, "Two Ann and Mehitable Philbricks of Hampton, New Hampshire" in it is a double issue [January/April 1993]. Hope this helps. George S. 3. Bill and Interested Parties, According to Chapman (pg. 10, #2 V): "Thomas Jr. [James2, Thomas1] b. 14 March, 1659, cordwainer, m. 14 Apr., 1681, Mehitable (dau. of Dalton) AYRES, and settled in Hampton. In 1694, he was a grantee of Kingstown. In 1702, he sold his house and lot, some 5 acres, to Samuel Chapman, Jr., late of Ipswich and removed to Kingstown, where he d. 1 Jan. 1712". I know Chapman has errors, but his info agrees with the GDMNH data, and may give a clue to Dow's info (which wasn't all that perfect either). Seeking parentage of Nancy and date/place of marriage to William. General: Though I have a good deal of info on the Shute family in Newmarket, always interested in adding flesh to the bones. Reference: "Richard Shute of Boston, Massachusetts, 1631-1703 & Selected Progeny" by Alan H. Shute & Clark H. Flint: Heritage Books, Inc., 1955. Had limited printing, no longer available (copy at NEHGS). See p24 For Michael Shute and other pages for subsequent generations. Caution: Be careful using Fitts :"History of Newfields". Like most such local histories of that time period (turn of the century) it has its flaws.

Joseph and Tryphena's Ann was born almost 3 years later, and Dow does not state whether or whom she may have married.. I have no proof, other than the notation above about the names of the children of Stephen and Ann, but I question whether Dow and Chapman (below) were correct as to which Ann Stephen BERRY married. Stephen BERRY and Anne PHILBRICK married in Hampton on 4 Jan 1715/1716. Sanborn and Sanborn, "Vital Records of Hampton, New Hampshire, to the End of the Year 1900," (1998), vol. 2, pg. 40. They had about 4 children in Hampton thereafter. One of them was named Tryphena. These are also named in the vital records. > I believe that the two Anns you refer to are two different women. > > Perhaps our host, Dick Marston, will have additional information that I > do not. > > If you are interested in PHILBRICK research, and/or would like to > correspond with other PHILBRICK/PHILBROOK researchers, I would like to > point out that there is a PHILBRICK-L mailing list on RootsWeb. She certainly would be of the right age to have been the Ann/Anne who married Stephen. Based on the name they gave to one of their daughters, it would seem probable that Stephen's Anne was the daughter of Joseph and Tryphena (MARSTON) PHILBRICK. > Rev. 3. George, I don't have the answer to your question, but I will try to help. I have a copy of the book by the Rev. Jacob Chapman and he does not list an Ithamar BERRY in the index. He *does* show Ann, 5th child of Joseph PHILBRICK and Triphena MARSTON, b. 13 Jan 1694 (backed up by the Hampton VR), but there is no mention of a marriage to anyone. What is the source of your info? Chapman also has an Ann, 6th child of Thomas PHILBRICK and Mehitable AYRES (dau. of Dalton AYRES), b. 12 Mar 1691, who married Stephen BERRY of Rochester in 1716. I believe that the two Anns you refer to are two different women. Perhaps our host, Dick Marston, will have additional information that I do not. If you are interested in PHILBRICK research, and/or would like to correspond with other PHILBRICK/PHILBROOK researchers, I would like to point out that there is a PHILBRICK-L mailing list on RootsWeb. I would be happy to give you instructions on how to subscribe. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jack W.
